Essay About Donald Trump

Money really isn’t everything, because if it was, one would not expect the wealthiest president America has ever had – with a current net worth of over $3.1 billion, President Donald Trump, to have an approval rating as low as 39%. The 45th in the ranking of approval out of the 45 presidents to have ever served the most powerful nation in the world.

Donald Trump – Background, early life

Born Donald John Trump to the family of Frederick Christ Trump, a real estate magnate in the Bronx and Mary Anne Macleod Trump, a prominent woman in their immediate society at the time.

Most of Donald Trump’s early life was in Jamaica estates, Queens, New York City, where he lived since was born at the Jamaica hospital in Queens’ borough on June 14th, 1946. He attended the Kew-Forest School from kindergarten up till his 7th grade.

When he was 13, his parents registered him in a private boarding school, New York military academy. Following his graduation, he enrolled at Fordham University when he was 18 but transferred to the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania after two years where he studied and graduated with a B.S in Economics in 1968.

After acquiring up to 4 student draft deferments while in college and a medical examination, he was deemed eligible to serve in the military by a local draft board in July, 1968. But by October of the same year, Trump was medically deferred and declared “1-Y: not eligible to serve except in the case of a national emergency” due to a bone spur that developed in his feet as mentioned during his presidential campaign in 2015. He was permanently disqualified for military service in 1972, when he was reclassified as 4-F.

While he was still in Wharton, Trump worked at the family business, Elizabeth Trump & Son and thus began his real estate career. According to some of his then classmates, Trump was more focused on his business than he was on school work, though vocal, he was described as an “unexceptional” student. His first major project however, was in 1968 following his graduation from Wharton when he revamped the Swifton Village apartments complex in Cincinnati, Ohio for his father. In 1971, Trump was promoted to the position of the company president and he swiftly renamed it the Trump Organization.

The Trump organization has since expanded and dabbled into other ventures in various sectors including but not limited to beauty pageantry, television shows, professional sports, education, foundations, branding and licensing. Although some were unsuccessful and resulted in bankruptcy.

Following his inauguration as President of The United States in January 2017, Trump resigned all management roles in the Trump Organization and assigned his sons, Donald Jr. and Eric Trump in his place but retained his financial stake in the company.

Trump’s mother Mary Anne MacLeod – who immigrated into New York at the age of 18 – was born in Tong, Lewis, Scotland, to a Gaelic-speaking family and Trump’s father Frederick – whose father also immigrated from Kallstadt, a village in Germany into the United States in 1885 and became a U.S citizen 7 years later – was born in 1905 in the Bronx and started working with his mother in real estate when he was 15, not long after his father’s demise.

Their company, ‘E. Trump & Son’, founded in 1923, was very active in the New York boroughs of Queens and Brooklyn and they were able to amass their affluence in real estate by building and selling thousands of houses, barracks, and apartments. Frederick and Mary got married in 1936 and raised Donald along with his siblings Maryanne, Fred Jr., Elizabeth, and Robert in Queens.

Donald Trump has been married three times and has gotten divorced twice. He married his first wife, Ivana Zelníčková in 1977 and they had three children together. Their first child, Donald Trump Jr, was born on December 31, 1977, his sister Ivanka was born on October 30, 1981 and their last child together, Eric was born on January 6, 1984. Ivana is of Czech descent and she was a model at the time. The pair got divorced in 1992 because Trump had an extramarital affair with American actress, Marla Maples.

He proceeded to marry his mistress barely a year after his wife left and they had one daughter, Tiffany, together. Tiffany was born on October 13, 1993, the same year her parents got married. The couple got divorced in 1999 after being separated for 2 years and she was raised by her mother, Marla in California.

In 1998, Trump met his current wife, Slovenian Model, Melania Knauss at a New York Fashion Week party, about a year after he had been separated from his second wife, Marla. Melania who was born on April 26, 1970 was barely 28 years old at the time while Trump was 52. The age difference didn’t seem to deter the couple as they eventually got married in 2005 – 7 years after they met and she is currently the first lady of America.

Melania and Trump have a son, Barron William Trump who was born on March 20, 2006, making him the youngest son of President Trump. Trump has 10 grandchildren, all from his first wife’s children. Donald Jr. has 5 children with his ex-wife Vanessa, Ivanka and her husband Jared Kushner have 3, and Eric and his wife Lara have 2 children. Trump’s first wife, Ivana has remarried twice since she left him and divorced both times while his Second wife, Marla has not remarried since their divorce.
