Why the Bombing on Nagasaki was Necessary to End World War II?

During World War II America dropped two atomic bombs. The first atomic bomb was dropped on Hiroshima on August 6, 1945. The second bomb was dropped on Nagasaki on August 9th 1945.. Japan refused to surrender after the first atomic bomb was dropped. on Hiroshima, America didn’t know how long the War was going to go on for And how many citizens would die. Therefore, America decided to drop the second bomb on Nagasaki. The bombing on Nagasaki was necessary to end World War II because it forced the Japanese to surrender, protected many American lives, and was the quickest way to end World War II.

During World War II America bombed Hiroshima, they killed 80,000 people instantly. Japan still refused to surrender. Their emperor didn’t believe in surrendering because, when U.S. terror bombing of Japanese civilian targets peaked, he resisted and Showed not determination to do so. Many citizens of Japan started taking their life. This is due to, Military propaganda had warned the civilian population that if they were captured, the Americans would torture, rape, and murder them. They believed that they would’ve been captured if they surrendered. American troops on Saipan, saw mothers grasping on to their baby and leaping off the cliffs rather than to be taken, prisoner. There was no survivor out of 33,000 Japanese troops on Saipan. The Japanese also believed they should fight until the last man standing to prove loyalty to their emperor ( Japan believed their emperor was a descendant from God.) Back in those days of 100 million Japanese citizens supposedly being prepared to fight to the last man, everybody was prepared for death, Shigeaki said. The doctrine of total obedience to the Emperor emphasized death and made light of life. The willingness to die for the Emperor on a faraway island resulted in a whole new sense of identity. Another reason why Japan wouldn’t surrender is they knew it meant defeat. Japan’s leaders feared their power would be devalued if they surrendered, If their power was devalued then that would mean that the citizens would start taking charge which would cause chaos.

Americans know for sure now that the Japanese weren’t planning on surrendering because when America, Britain, and China sent them a letter that laid out terms on which they can surrender and warned them about the bombs they can use if, they don’t surrender. After that, Japan still refused to surrender. Japan didn’t believe they should in surrender even after the first atomic bombing on Hiroshima. Therefore, the second bombing on Nagasaki was essential to stop various suicides and many lives if, America didn’t drop the second bomb on Nagasaki more lives could have been sacrificed. America would have invaded their land and the Japanese would fight more harshly because they were prepared to fight because of their dedication to their emperor. By invading their land, many Americans would’ve died. Not only would Japan fight America, but America also didn’t know if Japan’s allies(Italy and Germany) would fight us too. Another reason, why America Saved lives by dropping the atomic bomb, was that if we didn’t drop the bomb, World War II could have continued to go on for months or years. By dropping the bomb on Nagasaki, America saved various lives because Japan had various citizens completely prepared if we invaded their land because of their loyalty to their emperor and the chance that Japan’s allies would fight America too. America also saved lives by dropping the bomb because it gave Japan a fair warning but if America invaded their land then America wouldn’t give Japan a warning. Dropping the atomic bomb on Nagasaki was the fastest way to ending the war. It is estimated that between 60,000 and 80,000 people were killed instantly when the bomb fell. It would take a countless number of U. S soldiers and a significant amount of time to kill 80,000 Japanese people. A week after the bombing of Nagasaki, Japan surrendered. Dropping the atomic bomb on Nagasaki was necessary because it was the quickest way to end the war. Once America dropped the bomb, citizens died instantly. Which, allowed the Japanese ruler to react instantly by surrendering. The dropping of the atomic bomb on Nagasaki was necessary to end the war because the Japanese wouldn’t surrender when America dropped the first atomic bomb on Hiroshima, due to their loyalty to their emperor, The Japanese’s fear of getting captured by America and the leaders . Unfortunately if America didn’t drop the bomb on Nagasaki, then it would’ve cost more American lives because of Harry Truman’s alternative plan of invading Japan and World War II would have lasted a lot longer because Japan doesn’t give up when it comes to fighting for their country.
