Introduction to Child Labor
Imagine if your family had no money and all hope was lost. Until you see an ad for a job to good to be true.The next thing you know your in Africa working in a factory. Children have always worked in the US. and other countries. Child labor gained popularity in the19th and 20th centuries also in times of the great depression and the industrialization era. Child labor is very popular in foreign countries in tiny places. Children under the age of 18 are targeted mostly in foreign countries (Child Labor).
Child labours are modern day slaves who work in dangerous workplaces.With long hours and little to no pay and they need help.
In 2012 10.6% of children aged 5 -17 were still enslaved worldwide. In 2014 42.83% of children aged 7-14 are still enslaved in nepal ( Esteban Ortiz-Ospina and Max Roser ). “The job was difficult she explains in times of high demand the workers have to work all night with a one hour break for a nap on the concrete floor at dawn after which they continued to work the whole next day” (world day against child labour :stories from myanmar). Child labours could suffer from general injuries to sexual abuse, physical abuse, emotional neglect, physical neglect, lack of schooling, and competition with adults could lead to low wages (Causes and consequences of child labor in ethiopia).
There are non profit organizations who are trying to end this type of slavery the child labor coalition is one of many (child labor coalition). International initiative to end child labor helps by providing financial and technical assistance for the small ngo’s in third world countries (international initiative to end child labor).
