How it works

It was at Buffalo Wild Wings, where a spicy wing on the menu was described by the waiter as "as spicy as a ghost pepper" due to their very own mango habanero sauce. My uncle challenged me to eat the wings for the stake of 300 dollars. I didn't want to appear timid in front of all my older cousins either. Unfortunately, one had to be at least 14 years old to eat the wing, but I had just turned 12 that year.

When they informed me that they could give me the sauce to try, I was extremely happy.

I had another opportunity to earn 300 dollars, but I was also intensely concerned that I was about to consume a sauce that was rated at approximately 300,000 Scoville units. It didn’t help that they made my mom sign a contract stating that if anything happened, the restaurant was not responsible and they could not be sued by any means. What would it taste like? Would it be spicier than a habanero pepper? Why did I decide to do this all for only 300 bucks?

Our food slowly came out. We ordered a variety of different foods, from their juicy Big Jack Daddy burger to their traditional Buffalo Wild Wings. My favorite item there was their Honey Barbeque Chicken Salad. They had just brought in half a dozen of the Mango Habanero wings, which were the wings they legally could not let me eat. All my uncles and cousins ate one. They started reacting fiercely, and they ordered a gallon of milk for the five of them to share. My cousin, Jacob, started turning red and it seemed like he almost passed out. After they all recovered, fries came out, and while I was engrossed in a conversation with my cousins about Fortnite, I paid no attention to the waiter placing what I assumed was ketchup next to my plate. I casually dipped my fry into what I thought was ketchup.

After I took one bite, I got a hint of spice, but I thought it was the fry seasoning. It continued to get spicier and spicier until the point where I felt like dying. I did not want to say anything because I did not want to be seen as a baby by all of the family. However, I couldn't hold it back when the sauce really hit me and I suddenly realized that I had eaten the pepper sauce instead of ketchup.

About twenty seconds after I ate the fry, I felt the full potential of the pepper sauce. There was a fireworks show going on in my mouth. I had gone through five glasses of milk in the past five minutes. I started drooling and my whole mouth was on fire. I developed hiccups and my nose was so runny it was like Niagara Falls. Suddenly, I vomited up my entire meal. There were some parts of my salad and some chicken wings. Instead of helping me,

All 15 people at my birthday party sat on their lazy butts and laughed at me while I continued to barf all over the entire table. They soon began to help me, but I was so embarrassed at that moment. The waiters came to help my parents clean up the mess. It was very awkward having these random people come and clean up my barf.

Near the end of dinner, my nose was still runny, and I could still feel the spice at the back of my throat.

I learned that day to never eat anything that spicy again and to make sure that I will pay attention to the waiter when he is explaining what is inside each dish and the sauces that come with it. But at the end of the day, I still got my 300 dollars!

To this day, I still question why I told them that I wanted to try their spiciest sauce, and how I managed to eat the sauce without knowing it. I still have the three hundred bucks, and I still don't know what I am going to spend it on.
