How it works

About 75 percent of the Forbes World’s Most Valuable Brands have created some form of the virtual reality or augmented reality experience for customers or employees. This must say something if you have companies such as Sony, Facebook(Oculus), and HTC. There’s obviously some potential in virtual reality if people are dedicating part of their companies to this material.

The innovation of this technology is certainly amazing but what impact will it have on the future of technology or even businesses, companies, education, etc.

Will virtual reality continuously benefit humans in such ways that only seem like a dream or cartoon, also will there be negative or positive impact? What is virtual reality and how do we use it?

Virtual reality has been around since the 90s and was made to show many simulated environments. In an article it states, A 17- year old sci-fi enthusiast, Palmer Luckey built the first prototype in his parents garage in Long Beach, California the year of 2010. The first prototype was called the PR1 and featured a 90-degree field of view, low latency, and built-in “haptic feedback”. This is the founder of the arguably the best virtual headset out right now and front runner, Oculus VR and the designer of the Oculus Rift. Now there are three different “realities”, augmented, mixed, and virtual.

The difference between virtual, mixed, and augmented reality is that virtual reality is completely immersive and equipment such as headsets and goggles are used. Augmented reality adds digital elements to a live view often by using the camera on a smartphone. Meaning there’s a live view of whatever through your camera but certain animated objects are added to give you another view. Mixed reality really is just augmented and virtual reality put together.

Virtual reality is a fully immersive interactive computer-generated experience taking place within a simulated environment. It incorporates mainly auditory and visual feedback, but may also allow other types of sensory feedback. This environment provided can be something similar to the real world or it can be fantastical. This differentiates the three different types of reality and gives a specific way that they’re not alike and why. VR lets you implicate the users in what’s happening around them, even more. It gives you a lot more tools than a screen as if you were playing a video game and just looking at the tv or pc and using a controller.

Virtual gives you more of experience. Playing on a screen is basic but you get more of experience from VR and the equipment used for it. When using virtual reality rather than locating a real camera within a physical environment, the position of the user’s eyes are located within the simulated environment. If the user’s head turns, the graphics react accordingly. Rather than compositing virtual objects and a real scene, VR technology creates a convincing, interactive world for the user. Virtual reality are simulations created with many types of technology that give us the ability to apply our senses for entertainment, escape the real word, and express how humans continue to evolve.

The next topic presented will be “how is virtual reality being used now?”. Virtual reality has been used in many technical aspects or industries. It’s not being used for just video games, virtual reality is being used in the medical field to explore anatomy or do surgeries, Surgeons can train with virtual tools and patients, and transfer their virtual skills into the operating room, and studies have already begun to show that such training leads to faster doctors who make fewer mistakes. It’s used my NASA for space exploration and simulations before astronauts are sent into space.

Opaque Space is a Melbourne based company that has been building simulations and training technologies with the help of various private and public sector industries such as NASA and Boeing. If big name companies such as NASA and Boeing are involved then this shows how important it is for virtual reality to progress . The military uses virtual reality to train soldiers and give them real life experiences as well as police officers without putting actual lives at risk.

Commercial pilots can use realistic cockpits with VR technology in holistic training programs that incorporate virtual flight and live instruction. Virtual reality is even used for entertainment such as amusement parks for roller coasters , movies for a different perspective , and also concerts surprisingly. Technology by far has come a long way for humans. The introduction of virtual reality headsets like the Oculus Rift, HTC Vive, and the Playstation VR have created a huge interest in the virtual reality’s potential. All of these products were made by big name companies and are the reason for the big sprout people want to continue and advance the technology. This fact shows you how involved people are within virtual reality and that they’re plenty of dedicated inventors. Besides these uses virtual reality is also used to help cure mental illness also.

Veterans and people with PTSD ( post - traumatic stress disorder) get treated with virtual reality. Ir allows these people to confront their challenges head on almost. They’re put in a controlled environment and/or whatever their phobia is and instead of experiencing it in real life they get a simulated environment where they don’t have to worry about being judged or facing possible consequences in the real world . Virtual reality is being used for more than just gaming and honestly is helping many people.

By using virtual reality for real life applications that are serious and could be life threatening virtual reality allowing for a consequence free learning environment. Virtual patients are used to allow students to develop skills which can later be applied in the real world. VR can put a trainee in a number of different situations, places and environments so the military are using it for flight simulations, battlefield simulations, medic training, vehicle simulation and virtual boot camp, among other things. A key benefit for the use of VR in the military is the reduction in costs for training.

Education wise , virtual is becoming a really big thing. Virtual reality has been adopted in education for teaching and learning situations. Students are able to interact with each other and within a three dimensional environment. Students can also be taken on virtual field trips, for example, to museums, taking tours of the solar system and going back in time to different eras.

By connecting virtual reality with teachers and students , this is keeping schools and education up to date with technology but also making things interesting for students all around instead of doing bookwork you put a headset and get to experience a certain topic on a whole other level. When the headsets become they will for sure become a regular thing like laptops and computers , in the next 10 years. Virtual reality is proven to help human perfect their craft in many different industries by giving them practice with real world situations. The more virtual reality progresses the more it can benefit the world as a whole and the more it’ll become mainstream.

What impact can virtual reality have in the future? Will we evolve with virtual reality? Who will it benefit more? Will virtual reality actually be perfected? Can virtual reality become “reality” for those who don’t like their actual lives. Many companies are taking the challenge to make superior virtual reality set and innovate them for the future and advancement of humans. There are many people out there who, for whatever reason, aren't capable of living a normal life. They deserve to be able to live, to explore, and to experience the wonder of the world (and beyond).

Virtual reality could be an outlet for the disabled and otherwise housebound - a way to experience what the able-bodied often take for granted, and that would be a brilliant thing. Life isn’t easy at all so given the chance if people could escape from the real world and live how they’d truly like to i’m pretty sure majority of the human population would engage in this manor.

Virtual reality can be life changing for example, a space agency putting cameras all over their equipment and sending them out to the great black unknown, with scientists on Earth viewing and navigating through a VR headset, would allow for space exploration in a way we've never seen before. People believe Earth isn’t the planet with life so if a bridge between reality and virtual reality could be created like the movie Avatar then of course we’d explore this.

Also, Think of 3D films, then think of actual, true 3D - a movie world you can explore at your own pace, looking at the action from different angles and paying attention to whatever you choose to. The thought of being able to control your favorite movie or tv show is a dream for many of us who watch television or movies. It’d be real could to have a choice to make throughout a movie or show then you have multiple outcomes like a video game. Now they’re are some negatives to virtual reality of course. just as watching too much television or staring at a computer screen, short-term eye strain is normal in VR.

However, tweaking the settings in your system can help alleviate this problem. Just like staring at any animated screen your eyes will hurt, especially with virtual reality and it being right in your face If you’re not in an open space then depending on what you’re using the headset for you can possibly hurt yourself with surrounding objects since you can’t see the actual world. Which is worse. Also you have to deal with spatial awareness as well, once you’ve been in VR for to long (more than 30 minutes), a lot of people tend to forget about these little objects that might cause them to fall over or wack a hand against a ceiling fan.

Out of sight, out of mind, sort of thing. If you are prone to seizures then you should probably just stay away because the technology may invoke a response. The average person, however, who doesn’t suffer from epileptic conditions, doesn’t need to worry–at least as far as current experiences are concerned, though there have been cases of it happening. Also If you have epileptic conditions you should stay away from virtual reality for sure cause you could get yourself killed or further damaged. It’s not as bad but of course there’s more work to be doneIn conclusion virtual reality, if it keeps up at his pace it will take the place of many other electronics or forms of entertainment.

There are many different ways humans can benefit from virtual reality and keep us moving forward to discover even more advancements. There’s a show called “Sword Art Online” if anybody has seen it you already know the virtual reality aspect is great and what we really want as humans or something like Assassin's Creed. Virtual reality is here to stay and the more we’re able to unlock it’s abilities and perfect it the more it’ll benefit humans and we should continue to evolve with it .
