History Thesis Paper – Martin Luther
The history of our world is a long complicated story that never ends, it's like a windy road that takes you anywhere. So many things and people from the past has shaped the world into what it is today. Humanity has had its ups and downs and some people helped bring it out of a slump and some people brought us further away from peace. Martin Luther for example is a man who changed a lot of views during his time.
Luther is at fault for the Catholic Church Reformation.
Luther was against the Catholic Church selling indulgences to innocent people. He knew the church was lying because you can't pay money to erase your sins and go to heaven. ¨In practice, indulgences could be bought. The practice was abused by the church, which which began relying upon their sale as a way of raising money, especially to pay for costly building projects.¨ (Orta, National Geographic) This shows the lies the church used to get money to build St. Petersburg. Luther believed the Catholic Church got salvation wrong because he believed people were only saved by faith. ¨Rome is harlot… The Italians mocked us for being pious monks, for they hold Christians fools. They say six or seven masses in the time it takes me to say one, for they take money for it and I do not.¨ (Orta, National Geographic) These were two of many points that Luther was in fault.
Luther's ideas spread rapidly. His ideas inspired voices of people with thoughts and different views and opinions to speak out against the church. ¨If you want to change the world, pick up your pen.¨ (Luther, Biography) This shows that he wanted people to hear him and understand what he thought and also follow his lead. The voices of Luther and his followers lead to the rise in Lutheranism. ¨All who call on God in true faith, earnestly from the heart, will certainly be heard, and will receive what they have asked and desired.¨ (Luther, Biography) This proved how Christianity and Lutheranism were different, people who were followers of Lutheranism trusted Martin and not the church.
Luther wrote the ninety-five Theses and pinned it to the door in Wittenberg for people to see. The document were then spread around Germany very quickly and eventually made it to Rome. The ninety-five Theses were statements or claim that Luther made against the church and were thought as provocative because were questioning Christianity leaders in Rome. ¨I know not the way God leads me, but how well do I know my guide.¨ (Luther, National Geographic) The ninety-five Theses held what Luther mainly believed in. It also contained what God intended. Martin Luther wanted the people to know what God wanted them to believe and to only trust their faith and ask Him for forgiveness. ¨Prayer is not overcoming God's reluctance. It is laying hold of his willingness.¨ (Luther, EBSCO) Luther truly knew deep down that God was a Man who had it in Him to forgive, and people should have trust in Him and if they leave everything out there with honesty He will forgive them.
