Harriet tubman was born in the year of 1822 a slave on Maryland’s eastern shore ,her real name was Araminta Ross but a lot of people do not know that because they think she supposed to be know as Harriet Tubman.She changed her name to Harriet in honor of her mother and took her husband’s last name, Tubman.She was the first slave to get picked by her slave owners which was by Brodas to Mrs. James Cook. She endured the harsh existence of a field hand, including brutal beatings beatings where she would get hit over the head by her master .

Tubman was a field slave but she was very educated . She lived a rough life and she was tired of getting beat and ready to escape to find her own way of life. At the age of 22 is when harriet tubman last name got changed when she married john tubman in 1844.

Five years later she ran away from her slave owners and their plantation . She left her husband and other family members behind as she went to Philadelphia to work in a hotel. Tubman made sure she went to visit and check on her family as many times as possible, sometimes it would be 19 times. She wanted to start freeing her family and other as she felt like they deserved it so she headed them to the direction to the underground railroad. The Underground Railroad was a network of people, African American as well as white but they all were slaves Looking for freedom. The underground was offering shelter and aid to escaped slaves from the South. It developed as a progress of several different clandestine efforts so that so many other would not find out about it and they all get tooken back so this place had to stay a secret to protect them all.From the year of 1850 – 1857 tubman had Made arrangements to rescue her sister, Brother-in-law and their two children.

Tubman took a second trip on the Underground Railroad, bringing alone her brother when she discovered her husband infidelity. Tubman still wasn’t done bringing people back she saved the best for last wich were her parents.As the years went by Tubman found some she could trust and tell her plan to who was a man by the name of James Brown. James Brown was a man that radical abolitionist who believed in the violent overthrow of the slavery system. These two knew they would get alone.In 1958 James was planning on doing his raid on Harper Ferry. James and tubman met in canada where she told him everything about the underground railroad in the east. Tubman played an important role in the civil war as a nurse,scout and spy. For three years she nursed and helped the sick wounded Florida and the Carolinas, tending whites and blacks, soldiers and contrabands.

With Tubman features it was easy for her to go through the rebel territory without anyone noticing her to collect information.Tubman led the way up the Combahee River in June 1863. The commander only had paid her two hundred dollars over a three-year period , Which was not very fair to her because she still had family she had to take care of. For Tubman to support herself by selling pies, gingerbread, and root beer so she would be able to get by and help provide for her love ones. After the war Tubman returned to new york continue to help the blacks and the most important thing she returned to help take care of her parents. Tubman funds were still low but she didn’t let that get to her, the smart woman started writing about her life and selling it to people as well as presenting speeches so that she could get paid.Harriet first husband had passed away so she remarried in the year of 1869 To Nelson Davis, 22 years younger than her. They were married in the Presbyterian Church.

In 1873 Tubman borrowed money from a friend to buy gold. Before the exchange Tubman was attacked ,as well as beated bad and her money stolen. That next year in 1874 The couple adopted a baby girl named Gertie that they both had raised. I know this made her life a little more peaceful after everything that had went on in the years of her past.

Her most memorable appearance was at the organizing meeting of the National Association of Colored Women in 1896 Washington , D.C. Two generations came together to celebrate the strength of black women and to continue their struggle for a life of dignity and respect.Harriet tubman lived a life as a wonderful determine african american woman that never gave up and always fought for her rights even if she got killed trying.Making sure her family is straight is the most loving and caring thing. Harriet tubman had passed away march of 1913, where she suffered from pneumonia, she was 93. She was buried with military honors at Fort Hill Cemetery in Auburn, New York
