Why College Tuition should be Free

There are so many reasons why college should be free for everyone. First there would be fewer people that would need to have government assistance. Also with free college education there would be smarter people making better decisions that could help solve our most difficult challenges. Students won’t graduate without a job and $ 30,000 student loan debt. Finally, most jobs in today’s society ethier need some kind of degree, or technical training of some sort. This is why I believe that college should be free.

With more people being able to go to college, and getting degrees this would more than likely reduce the amount of people that are and government assistance. For example the total number of americans that are on welfare is 46 million. Welfare is a government support for the citizens, it is used to provided to people of any income level, as with social security, but usually it is intended to ensure that the poor can meet their basic human needs such as food and shelter. If there is more people that have degrees then there wouldn’t be any need for government assistance such as welfare. Another reason why having free college to lower the number of people on government assistance is so that we wouldn’t spent so much money on it. In 2017 the total cost of welfare was 729 billion dollars.

I believe that having college free to everyone would make americans smarter. If most americans have a college education there would be more people able to think about better ways to get things done. Going to colleges teaches you to have drive and motivation, because if you don’t have it then you won’t be able to achieve your goal. And if more people went to college then there would be more people with the drive and ambition to solve some the worlds biggest problems like world hunger, cleaner energy and climate change.

A great reason to have free college is for the student loans. Right now the total student debt is 1.5 trillion dollars. Students are graduating from college with no job and a $30,000 student loan debt. If there were no student debts Students would be able to focus more on their studies and not have to worrying about how they will get money they need to pay for the semester. Also this could jumpstart the economy, if a student did not have the debt they could get a job and buy houses, cars and get their life started right away. This could result in billions of dollars circulating throughout the economy since people tend to spend more money when they have higher incomes and little or no debt. This would contribute more to the economy then having to worry about how you are going to pay off your debt for the next ten to twenty years.

Most jobs in today’s society more and more jobs require you to have some kind of degree, or technical training of some sort. By having a degree in something shows that you have dedication. Also to employers people with college degrees seem to be smarter than those with just a high school diploma with most people have. Employers also see degrees as an indication of whether you have a range of skills they’re looking for, like the ability to communicate effectively or program computers for example. And if more people have degrees more people would be able to meet an employers requirements. Also more people would be able to take the good-paying jobs that often go unfilled. So by having free college it would educate the workforce to help fill many of the skills gaps that prevent America’s economy from growing faster.
