How it works

It is widely accepted that the ethics of abortion has been a subject of conversation and controversy, that has been continually argued over many decades. Abortion is the deliberate termination of a fetus or embryo from the womb before it is able to survive independently.  It raises ethical questions because it makes us consider when life begins and whether we should prioritize the life of the fetus or the life of the mother. The best way to refer to abortion on an ethical basis is through the description and evaluation of the subject based on three of the most known theoretical approaches: utilitarianism, deontological (duty-based), and virtue-based ethics. In order to understand which of the three ethical theories best view abortion from my perspective, we need to understand the differences and similarities, as well as, strengths and weaknesses.
