How it works

The military is the face of any country’s patriotism, independence, power, and national security. The army, especially because of its wise commanders, courageous soldiers, and triviality is glorified widely in our history, culture, and mass media. The perception about the army considerably changed in the 20 century, especially because of wars and numerous conflicts, but currently, it is taken as an essential and important part of life (Fowler, 2016). Individuals in the army are expected to uphold various standards to be part of the team. This paper is an informative essay on army values.

Army Values

?The main army values are seven, including respect, loyalty, selfless service, duty, integrity, honor, and personal courage. The value of duty is the most important and entails having a sense of obligatory and moral commitment to defend and serve the homeland. Duty allows soldiers to act in various circumstances appropriately based on inner feelings of what is moral (AUSA, 2016). The value of respect and dignity entails treating people appropriately. The value allows appreciation of others, and every soldier must treat colleagues as he or she wants to be treated. The army emphasizes the relevance of opportunity and equal treatment for everyone.

?The value of loyalty emphasizes on bearing true faith and allegiance to other soldiers, unit, army, and constitution. The element of an effective army is unfailing loyalty to chain of command, its goals, and soldiers (AUSA, 2016). Loyal soldiers are always ready to cover their fellow soldiers, appreciates true leadership, and their loyalty is never questioned. The value of a selfless service entails putting one’s welfare after that of the nation, army, and subordinates. The value enables soldiers to put their country’s security before their personal needs and sacrifice in favor of greater welfare. The most powerful army is always ready to serve the country, regardless of obstacles and personal beliefs.

?The value of honor focuses on living up to all the values in the army. Every soldier expects to receive an honor for their selfless services. The highest possible military honor is the Medal of Honor. The value of integrity focuses on morally and legally doing what is right. Integrity entails truthfulness in all things, being trustworthy, and is the quality of professional officers being undivided or complete (AUSA, 2016). Personal courage is the other army value that focuses on facing danger, fear, or adversity, both moral and physical. Personal courage requires members in the army to do what they are afraid to do, to put their friendship, possessions, and comforts at risk in their nation’s defense.

The Importance of Army Values

?Army values are critical in nations because they define institutions and set the course for professional behavior in public as well as private lives. The values give people reasons to believe good outcomes come from adherence to standards (Fowler, 2016). Relationships succeed as a result of people deciding to honor one another, uphold integrity in their lives, and commit to the values of the army. Failures in relationships result from improper thoughts, which promote unwise words that eventually lead to poor actions. Integrity matters because it forms the foundation upon which the values are built.

Conclusion

The seven values of the army are the core of the American’s modern military culture. The idea of the values can be generalized with the mission statement of the US army, which is to fight and win the country’s wars by offering sustained and prompt dominance over land across conflict spectrum and various military operations in support of combatant commanders. Soldiers joining the army must know its main values, as a lifestyle to stand for their nation. The values require a high level of self-sacrifice and commitment from every soldier and officer. Individuals willing to join the army must be committed to achieve and maintain army values of their corresponding countries.
