How it works

Have you ever been put into a bracket of how you are “suppose to act as an certain gender?” For example, throughout the years growing up males were always told you shouldn’t play with dolls with saying along with that statement “you aren’t a girl” “boys don’t play with dolls” no matter if these figures are action figures or not. Which developed a blockage of some type over the years to see whenever you see a doll it’s like a reminder that oh my parents say boys aren’t supposed to play with dolls.

This is an example of how cultural representation throughout the household where the parents install foundations of what which gender does and does not do. The Idea of gender roles are based on difference of men and female, but recently have changed throughout the years. Following the beliefs of society along with cultural influences have an effect on the mind, and the way people think and alter the actions, giving confusion with gender identity. With more of a Cultural and Society based decision. Whether something is right now of days is more controlled within the “formalities” of society and anything outside of that would be considered abnormal. While Cultural is more based off religious beliefs or even when the parents develop the child within the criteria of how the family would react.

What is gender you say? How is gender and sex different thing? Though they are often interchangeable; sex and gender are different. Generally, most cultures hold the popular belief that men and women are very different in terms not only biological, but also feelings, thoughts, and sometimes behavior. If many of men's and women's psychological difference are based more on societal and cultural concepts than biology. What gives us the sense of our gender is our sexuality to sex ratio. Physical characteristics make up the male or female gender. We use two terms to associate the word gender, gender roles and gender identity. Our gender roles are the attributes of attitudes, behaviors, rights, and different responsibilities they intake.

While roles are not inherited but learned which is called gender typing. Gender identity is just the sense of being a male or a female. The development of gender identity through gender typing begins as soon as birth, with hospitals placing pink hats on baby girls and blue hats on baby boys. Further, girls parents tend to buy them “girl” toys, such as dolls and home oriented things, whereas parents of boys tent o buy them trucks, footballs, basketballs, mini basketball goals, toy guns. While often influenced by gender roles, the identities Traditionally, gender roles and identity have been considered binary, or defined differently for male and female separating the different characteristics. Giving these stereotype’s that only males are supposed to be masculine while females are the feminine. However, no matter how strict or lenient different cultures present these traits come from gender roles. While there are those who do not conform with the biological makeup. Many societies have met gender nonconformity with homophobic attitudes and aggressive behavior, there have been exceptions throughout history. For example Native American tribes, embrace the honor within their own little societies specifically for those they describe as the “Two-Spirit” basically a person who has a soul of a male and female. There are four different theories that are associated with gender. Psychodynamic theory which is the theory of suggesting that children learn their identity through reconciliation of their own sexual attraction to the opposite-sex parent. Second theory is Social learning which is the theory founded by Albert Bandura suggest that gender roles are learned from the adults who take care of the children, next is Cognitive which I feel is the most important which suggest that children make their own conscious decisions about their own gender identity before they select models from whom they learn they “gendered” behaviors. Lastly Gender schema is children developing mental patterns, of masculine and feminine characteristics, roles, and activities from their societal experience.

Sexuality is the difference of one sex chromosomes makes most human beings either biologically male or female, all humans experience sexual feelings and attractions to other people or sexuality to some degree. With that being said men and women as a whole differ in their sexual strives. Men aim to have sex with many women because it increases the likelihood of more offspring. Women aim to have sex with a man who will be a good provider because it increases the chance of the offspring they have.

In the Study of Sexual Behavior and Orientation Alfred Kinsey founded this organization known as the Institute for Sex Research, now known as the Kinsey Institute for Research in Sex, Gender, and Reproduction. Kinsey is best known his dramatic scale of that measures one Heterosexuality and Homosexuality. The scale basically conforms the abnormality of the world this scales goes from 0 which means exclusively heterosexual to 6 which is exclusively homosexual. There are in-between categories that state some homosexuality per se incidents are accidental and vise versa for the heterosexual incidents. Sexual orientation is one of the factors that come along with sexuality is the patterns of emotional, romantic, and sexual attractions to other. The common term Heterosexual is when you are sexual attraction to the opposite sex. While Homosexual is when you are attracted to the same sex.
Society puts on this unnatural inheritance like anything outside of heterosexuality is abnormal. Sexual orientation tends to be influenced by how conforming a person is to expected gender role. Male and female nonheterosexuality tends to be preceded by gender nonconformity in childhood. A pattern of behavior that matches that of the opposing sex. Most of these patterns emerge within an early age of childhood. In spite of conventional gender socialization, and is seen across cultures, and seen across cultures. Slight genetic influences are suggested by a higher frequency of a particular orientation in different studies. There is much less support for the idea that sexual orientation is primarily factored by different environments. Though as induvial of ourselves we never know and understand how differently peoples sexual orientation develops, we do know that young people especially tend to have issues dealing with set problems identifying. Regardless of ones make up genetically one of the most influential elements of the development of identification and experience is gender and sexuality. When that develops it influences and informs many other aspects of our development and effects our behavior.

The world in which young people grow up today is very different from that of their parents. This may be especially true in different developing countries around the world. Compared with the people of past generations, young people today have more opportunities and challenges. They are likely to have more independence from their parents and spend more time in school. They are likely to have more access to television and, increasingly, to the Internet and mobile phones. They are also entering adulthood earlier postponing marriage and childbearing until later, and are more likely to have sex before marriage. Parents and other family members, of course, have always played a role in the physical, emotional and sexual development of young people. At the same time, there is increasing acceptance of that, in today’s world, these sources like the school systems are insufficient and that we should consider better options.

While in America we don’t suffer with inequality of sexuality in a since of them being legal, some countries still have laws that prevent abnormal sexuality. In 2015, the US Supreme Court ruled that same-sex couples have a constitutional right to marry, effectively bringing marriage equality to all 50 states. While In the world there are 72 different countries and territories that criminalize same-sex relationships, including 45 in which sexual relationships between women are outlawed. There are eight countries in which homosexuality can result in a death penalty. Here are the breakdown of status: North and South America no punishment, Iran, Saudi Arabia, and Sudan punishable by death, most of Africa is punishable by jail time ranging from 0-15 years, while Afghanistan, Pakistan, and Mauritania homosexuality is for the death penalty but its not applied. Altogether, more than 120 countries have decriminalized homosexuality. Some still want to be described as liberal. Russia, for example, has recently introduced laws banning the promotion of homosexuality. Russia was recently banned by the European court of human rights for a 2013 law banning the spread of “propaganda of non-traditional sexual relations” among minors. In the US there is worried about a rollback of LGBTI rights under the administration of President Donald Trump. The latest in a series of rights reversals prompting concern include banning transgender people from serving in the US military in most circumstances and removing protections for transgender prison inmates. In some cases, it not just the major changes that can influence it can just be the government taking sides with different rulings for example the US supreme court as taking sides with a man who side he won’t serve and make any wedding cakes for same-sex marriages. Only five countries in the world Bolivia, Ecuador, Fiji, Malta, and the United Kingdom have laws that guarantee equality for citizens on the basis of sexual orientation as well as gender identity.

In conclusion, today’s world is the fore front of difference in special people and not conforming to sexuality is not only going to hinder but cost us different people. Along with today’s society pursing the demise of homosexuality inserting different inequality tactics while on the other side culture and upbringing along with how religious factors influence one's identity. We are effected no matter being Heterosexual or Homosexual because this is another form of discrimination but in a sexual status way. Along with other factors discrimination is the last thing we need, while America is more conformed to sexualities the change needs to come with other countries adapting to sexuality… Sentencing your own people to death who commit no crime all because of sexuality? No Religion, no upbringing, no influences have an effect on who people are within themselves. You cannot change what people like and how people go about liking whatever they like.
