How it works

The Challenge of Life’s Hardships

Life is only a tiny vapor. You can be here today and gone tomorrow. Life is not always what we want it to be or what we expect it to be. We sometimes have so many hardships in life and just don’t know how to deal with life itself. Life can sometimes make you feel lower than the slime on the bottom of someone’s shoes. Many people may even think about taking their lives trying to deal with the stress and the pressure of life.

The Role of Social Workers

When life takes you down those long, dark roads, and you think of giving up, you should know that there are people in the world who can help with life problems and difficult decisions. There are many social workers who are there to help you with the different problems that can occur in your life. Mrs. Carla Baskin is one of those social workers who is flexible, creative, passionate, empathetic, trustworthy, and has a great sense of humor with all that is around her. Mrs. Baskin grew up in a town in the delta called Greenville, MS. While growing up in the delta, there was not very much to do. There were no big amusement parks in that area, but Carla still enjoyed spending time with her family and going to the movies, skating, and bowling. As a family tradition, her family attended the Annual Blues and Heritage Festival every year. This also allowed her to focus on her studies and take part in various activities, such as the school band.

Carla Baskin: A Passionate Social Worker

Growing up, her mom had the most influence on her life. Her mom sacrificed a lot for her well-being. Carla endured many obstacles, but she remained firm in who Carla was and what Carla stood for. Carla worked very hard to make sure she was an exemplary model of what a strong, determined woman looked like. Carla made sure that she was grounded and rooted in the Lord, as well as having the ability to care for herself without depending on anyone other than God. Carla enjoyed spending time with her entire family at huge gatherings held at her grandparents’ house. After the passing of both her grandmothers, those gatherings became far and in between, with very few family members attending. Carla always wished that they could all come together collectively and consistently for holidays and special gatherings like they once did so faithfully years ago.

The Importance of Compassion and Continuous Learning

Carla enjoys working with others who may need assistance to improve and better their lives. Carla has been working in the field of social work for over 17 years, and she plans to continue for a long time. Carla’s most painful lesson was learning that she was not able to help everyone, no matter how hard Carla tried or how much Carla gave of herself. Carla had to learn that she had to accept that fact and move on to the next person. Carla believes that there is a high demand and need for more social workers because there continues to be a rise in social injustices. At-risk youth need assistance on multiple levels, from abuse, neglect, human trafficking, and in the juvenile court system, along with other social issues. Carla also believes that new graduates should get involved in community events regarding their field of work, like social groups, attend conferences, and other leadership opportunities to advance their knowledge in the field. Carla also advises new graduates to consider furthering their education on a graduate level to gain more knowledge and make themselves more marketable.

In conclusion, Carla would advise anyone who is thinking about going into this field to make sure they are compassionate and really have a heart to genuinely assist people. In addition, a person should also have a listening ear, have the ability to put themselves in the shoes of the individuals in which they are serving, and always operate in the values and ethics of the field.
