My 1984 Story

INTRODUCTION

The Party did the people wrong and treated them poorly because the Party wanted them to do what they asked for and manipulating their minds. Orwell wanted to tell people how the Party treated other people and what they had to sacrifice in order to do what was told. For it to be one of the most powerful warnings that ever happened in the totalitarian society. George Orwell’s 1984 is a interesting and constructive book that is filled with information that may not have been known back in the 1980’s.

In the beginning, Orwell wanted the audience to have a clear understanding of what was going on in 1984, basically everything that happened within the book.

George Orwell was a man who wrote different books after the 1984 one that he published in June of 1949 and who wanted to express what he thought of in 1984 to write a book about it and tell people what his thoughts and where his imagination was thinking about at the time of when we wrote the book. This story is based on a dystopian society where the government, that is in the book, is dehumanizing people who doesn’t believe the society is true and also who is making what they think or know is false. Also, dystopian society is a bad place to live in. Since it is a dystopian novel, it connects to 1984 because people are controlling. The dystopian is describing the novel as well.
George Orwell wrote 1984, the story of Oceania, as a warning about the lengths as which a totalitarian government could go in its quest for power. Orwell borrowed much of the backdrop of his novel from events in the Soviet Union. Some parallels that could be drawn between the Soviet Union and Oceania are: propaganda, police force, and re-writing history.

TOPIC 1: Propaganda

Propaganda in the Soviet Union: The Soviet Union most often used this brutal tactic during what became known as Glittering Generalities. Propaganda had many ways of what Russians did on a daily basis. The people that worked in the Stalin era, had to do the work or be killed, no exception. The 9 approaches that was a part of the Propaganda movement, was approaches that can happen in today’s society, 2000s, but there was more to it than just the 9 approaches that were a part of the Soviet Union’s lifestyle for men, women, and children.

Throughout history, the Soviet Union was known for its strong-arm of using publicity to get to the point of what they were advertising of what goes on in the Soviet Union of how propaganda worked. The Soviet Use of Propaganda parallels The Party’s method of the Russians to lose everything that they had in order for the information to be heard and seen by others of a particular topic but knowing it wasn’t the right information of that topic at all. According to PARCAST, it says, “As who did not subscribe to the government’s ideology stood to suffer “corrective” psychiatry, denial of work, prison and/or the loss of citizenship”. “During the Stalin era, those who deviated from the dictates of official propaganda were forced to work in labor camps or executed” (PARCAST). That was usual for something to happen like that in a era of the Stalin and you didn’t have no other way to get out of it. According to Orwell, he said, “war is peace, freedom is slavery, ignorance is strength” (Orwell 16). That doesn’t really aligned to what actually took place in 1984 so it’s just all lies for people to believe in that and manipulate them as well.

TOPIC 2: Police Force

Police Force in the Soviet Union: The Soviet Union most often utilized this brutal tactic during what became known as law enforcement. The first ever Secret Police, known as Cheka, was a temporary enforcement before the actually “Bolsheviks” came in and fade them away. The Secret Police also known as Bolsheviks are people that can do whatever they want to the rules as they please. It was one of the most powerful institute in Stalin history (RRA).

Throughout history, the Soviet Union was known for its strong-arm of using police force to understand how the force was like back in the Stalin History of where it took place. The Soviet Use of Police Force parallels The Party’s method of how the force was different to back then in 1984 to now in present time. Revelations from the Russian Archives said, “From the beginning of their regime, the Bolsheviks relied on a strong secret, or political, police to buttress their rule” (RRA). They wanted the attribution to be known and be done with trust and confidence that it would be with them.

“But it soon acquired powers of summary justice and began a campaign of terror against the propertied classes and enemies of Bolshevism” (RRA). When they (the Bolsheviks) got what they needed, they finally had the capability to get law enforcement upon the Thought Police. According to Orwell, “It occurred to Winston that for the first time in his life he was looking, with knowledge, at a member of the Thought Police” (Orwell, 224). He didn’t have no confrontations with the police until he looked on in the eyes.

TOPIC 3: Rewriting History

Rewriting History in the Soviet Union: The Soviet Union most often utilized this brutal tactic during what became known as historical time. Russia’s history was supposed to be viewed and written but they never said more about it (Economist). The history was supposed to been rewritten but never happened.

Throughout history, the Soviet Union was known for its strong-arm of how history was rewritten. The Soviet Use of History parallels The Party’s method how history was rewritten, to make people think what happened was true back in the past. The Economist says, “This advice from the head of the country’s first secret police is now being heeded in the Kremlin, where a new Russian history is being forged” (Economist). Russia’s past was something worth rewriting based on how it was viewed back then and that it can be memorable for Russia. “A strong and wise leader is more important than institutions – in fact, he is in Russians’ eyes the most important institution” (Economist). Having a leader can be good for Russia than not having no one at all and also somebody who works for a institution, doesn’t have much power than someone who knows the structure of their way of viewing things and has a powerful attribution of what they gone give the people.

He said, “Every record has been destroyed or falsified, every book rewritten, every picture has been repainted, every statue and street building has been renamed, every date has been altered. And the process is continuing day by day and minute by minute. History has stopped. Nothing exists except an endless present in which the Party is always right” (Orwell 155). The book 1984 past was rewritten and had false and inaccurate information.

CONCLUSION

The parallels life under the Soviet Union and life under the Party of Orwell’s 1984 are included, but were not limited to propaganda, police force, and rewritten history. How would you feel if our past wasn’t true, like all the information that we have known about it all these years, was false information? Everything in the past was just all a lie? Why would our teachers tell us all about the past but we didn’t learn nothing from it? If our past history was rewritten, how would our society look like in today’s society?
