How it works

For nearly a decade, the city of Boston has been without a Tea Party museum, a piece of history that defines the Boston Harbor and its place in the American Revolution. After many setbacks, construction is finally set to begin on a new, more comprehensive and interactive museum on the Fort Point Channel that will include all new replica ships and a tour that brings visitors back to 1773. It is set to be completed in spring 2012.

The Boston Tea Party was a protest that took place in the Boston Harbor in 1773 during which American colonists dumped tons of tea into the sea to protest a British tax on tea.

This event was important because it fueled the tension that had already begun between England and America. This growing tension is what led to the Revolutionary War, which was the war that started in 1775 and led to America winning its independence from England. During 16th century, Puritans arrived to Boston and they built Boston.

After the Puritans built Boston, they settle a colony in Massachusetts in 17th century and it was the most successful and profitable colony in New England. In the Boston Tea Party museum, they have a tea artifact that you can throw into the sea. I remember I threw the tea into the water when I visited. It interested me because you can throw the tea into the water and you can learn things through actually doing things they did in history. As one of the newest attractions on the Boston waterfront, the Boston Tea Party Ships and Museum takes a close look at the historical event that led to the American Revolution. Boston is steeped in history, but only the Boston Tea Party Museum offers an immersive experience that lays out the events that led up to the Battle of Lexington, the first battle of the Revolutionary War.

Not every history museum is kid-friendly, but this one was truly designed with kids in mind. Visiting the Boston Tea Party Ships and Museum with kids gets them hands on with history in a way that is relatable and fun. We should be appreciating the Boston Tea Party happened because they made English Parliament furious and it led to the actual revolutionary war. Which is the start point of war to get our own liberty from England.
