Essay about Odysseus the Hero

Heroes from different stories are known for their strongness, braveness and always for doing something right. Odysseus from The Odyssey by Homer in Greek mythology is about a man named Odysseus that is king of Ithaca and his journey going back to home after he got trapped with a hot goddess in an island.Odysseus is a hero. Because he is brave, smart and strong. Odysseus showed these qualities on the way going back to his kingdom with his men that he found on the way.

Odysseus showed his bravery by offering the cyclopes a strong wine so the cyclopes would be drunk.

After Polyphemus asked what Odysseus’s name was he told him that his name was “ Nohbdy”(book 9 line 360).after the cyclopes fell in a drunken sleep Odysseus and his men took the spear they made out and heated the sharpened end in the fire until it gleamed red. Then, they pushed the red hot point into the eye of Polyphemus. The second evidence for Odysseus bravery was when Odysseus slang a man under each middle one to ride safely when he and his men got out of the cave without getting caught by the Cyclopes . “ so three sheep convey each man’’( Homer 9 line 427).

The Cyclopes taught it was his sheep that were getting out because he felt their wool on their way out from the cave. At last, odysseus prove his bravery by confronting circe. Because circe changed his men to pigs when the men went to her house. In order to save his men odysseus told cirece that he won’t go to bed with her unless she “swear a mighty oath”( Homer 10 linje 342) that circe won’t form plans to hurt him anymore.

At the beginning of story Odysseus revealed his smartness while traveling back to his kingdom with his men when Polyphemus captured Odysseus and some of his men. The Cyclops had asked who Odysseus and his men were and where they were from also what brought them there by the seaways, but Odysseus did not tell the cyclops who he was when he told him everything else.

Later on, Odysseus made a plan to get out of that cave wisely. Odysseus offered the cyclopes “some wine”( Homer 9 line 342) so the cyclopes would be drunk and not focused. After that odysseus showed his smartness telling Polyphemus that his name was “Nohbdy”(book 9 line 360). For the third time in the story Odysseus unveiled his smartness when he shoots an arrow through antonius neck. And he told philiteus to “run to the outer gate and lock it, throw the cross bar and lash it”( Homer line 1172)
