Deep Level Diversity at Work

Definition:

 Deep level diversity - is where people feel they separate from members of a work group. Somewhat that which differ in personality, values or a Also it includes differences in morals, religious beliefs, and characteristics/personality, is more specific to how a person behaves. The differences that a person has developed through education. This type of diversity is on a more analytical level and can be influenced by our surface-level diversity experiences. Deep-level diversity may be harder to change but can be altered if new information is learned.

Summary:

Deep level diversity. Discussion: Often times when meeting knew people whether it is in social or professional setting the question, “What do you for a living?” The main reason do you respond with an upbeat answer or do you roll your eyes ad shrug it off? Page 103 of our textbook states, “One of the most important organizational behavior questions is to what degree job satisfaction influences behavior in the workplace. The overall answer is that job satisfaction has a considerable effect on employee behavior. However, a more precise answer is that the effect of job satisfaction and dissatisfaction on individual behavior depends on the person and the situation.”I firmly believe that not only does our job satisfaction obviously depend on factors within our workplace but it also is determined by events outside of work and our personal attitude as well. I’m currently in a time in my life where joy seems hard to come by. I’m struggling in many areas including satisfaction in my job. I am reminded of the verses Psalm 16:11 (CSB) “You reveal the path of life to me; in Your presence is abundant joy; in Your right hand are eternal pleasures” as well as Psalm 30:1-5 (NLT) which says “1 I will exalt you, Lord, for you rescued me. You refused to let my enemies triumph over me. 2 O Lord my God, I cried to you for help, and you restored my health. 3 You brought me up from the grave, O Lord. You kept me from falling into the pit of death. 4 Sing to the Lord, all you godly ones! Praise his holy name. 5 For his anger lasts only a moment, but his favor lasts a lifetime! Weeping may last through the night, but joy comes with the morning.” Lately, I have answered the opening question with an eye roll and shrug. Through this study and reading these verses, I have been convicted in the attitude that I present and my satisfaction in the workplace. My question is – As a Christian, how can we change the how we view job satisfaction and our attitudes in the workplace?
