Throughout the years of my life, my parents have instilled strict principles that have shaped me into the person I am today. There are many principles that I have been taught to live by, but three of them have really impacted my decision making as a young adult. First, I believe one should always give more than they take. This principle has applied to many areas of my life rather it be through work, school, or everyday activities. To be truly successful I believe one should always give their one hundred percent effort without expecting anything in return.
I have been inspired by this principle to offer my service to my community or anyone in need of help. I believe doing so has helped me in receiving many blessings throughout my life. Another principle that continues to be a big impact on my life is believing that failure is necessary for success. This has always applied to me with my school work, and it seems even more relevant in my life currently. College is a challenging time in life and failure is bound to happen, but overcoming that failure is what I believe will lead to my success in the future. I am also aware that I may have to overcome many failures throughout nursing school as well as a nursing career, but this will teach me to understand that failure with one patient will allow me to avoid the same with another. The final principle that has guided me through life is to allow my actions to speak louder than my words. I have always been a caring person and enjoyed helping others, but caring for others does not always involve just speaking. Healthcare has always been a passion of mine, and I believe that nursing will require me to continue life using my caring actions to define me.
The first person that comes to mind every time I am asked who has influenced my life is my father. Through the highs and the lows in life, my father has always made sure to push my siblings and me to be the best we can be. He has instilled in me to always work hard for what I get and to never give less than my full potential. Any time I have ever felt the urge to give up, I always contact my dad first to get his opinion. He has been through a lot of hardships throughout his life and always knows the right thing to say to motivate me to keep going. My dad has also taught me to be passionate towards whatever my dreams may be and success will be the final outcome. I am very thankful to have a man like my father as a positive influencer in my life and raise me with the principles I believe in today. Another person who has had an impact on my core values is my oldest sister. She is the most selfless and caring person I know and is the one who influenced me to become a nurse. While deciding what to major in I always considered nursing, but I did not believe that I would be intelligent enough to get accepted into nursing school. My sister had been through the process herself and pushed me to pursue nursing so that I could share my gift of caring for others, as a profession. I have always looked up to my sister and strived to be as hardworking and kind-hearted as her. I hope following in her footsteps will lead me to be successful in my career and my life endeavors.
To me, every nurse will possess their own set of values that have been past down to them from their influencers. Personally, I believe that my two biggest influencers have shown me perfect values to use towards a nursing career. Selflessness and a caring heart are two of the values that I will strive to put forth every day as a nurse. A patient in a hospital or doctors office often times is uncomfortable and scared during the time they spend. I intend to provide each patient I encounter with a caring attitude, with hopes to take away some of the stress and pain they are going through. I am aware that as a nurse, some days are going to be harder than others. Having a hardworking and passionate demeanor is something I take pride in and believe it will help me through the hardships. The everyday challenges that come with nursing are what I am looking forward to the most. Each day in health care will bring a new mystery and challenge that I will be allowed to encounter and solve. When thinking about my future in the nursing field, I am thankful that I will be given the opportunity to help others and better myself.
