Barack Hussein Obama is an american politician who served as the 44th president of the United States from 2008-2017. Obama was the first black president and him being sworn in as president is said to be "the best thing to happen to america in a long time". Being the first black president was just the beginning of what would be an interesting presidential run for Obama. Like many people expected, Obama made some great changes that helped better the country. HIs accomplishments were huge and they are what people remember most about him.
He seemed to always know how to handle situations with poise, but everything was not always easy for him. Obama had to face many problems as president, and it was tough on him. He overcame those problems and took them on his eight year journey, as he continued on his mission of making america a better place. Barack Obama is the best president we have had because he overcame a racial barrier, and many other obstacles in order to make america a better place and still making it better after his presidential reign.
Obama rescued the country from the Great Recession. He cut the unemployment rate from 10% to 4.7% over six years. Obama came into office immediately facing the 2008 financial crisis. In February of 2009, congress approved Obama's $787 billion economic stimulus package. It cut taxes, extended unemployment benefits, and funded public works projects. The recession ended in July of that year, when the GDP turned positive. Barack Obama saved our country from a Great Depression. 800,000 jobs were being lost monthly and Obama came into office and positively changed everything. This financial crisis was a problem in 2007, a year before Obama was voted into office. He came in and took care of this problem in just a few months into his presidency. This is looked back on one of one of Obama's greatest achievements and possibly one of the greatest in presidential history.
Obama helped drop the veteran homeless rate by 50 percent. About 40,000 veterans were found to be homeless in January of 2016. In January of that same year, 13,000 more were found unsheltered living on the streets. Barack and Michelle Obama and the entire Obama administration formed partnerships with HUD, VA, and USICH. These partnerships helped them decrease the veteran homelessness faster and easier. Since 2008 over 114,000 veterans have been served through these partnerships. This is another great achievement for Barack Obama, as he continued to do more great things.
During his presidency, Obama ordered the killing and capture of terrorist Osama Bin Laden. Bin Laden was the leader of Al-Queda, and a terrorist that was responsible for the death of thousands of men, women, and children. An event that we know today as 9/11, is what Bin Laden was responsible for. That was a tragic day for our country and still one of the most remembered days in the history of this country. The lives lost on that day were all innocent lives that didn't deserve to be taken. The best thing for someone to do was find the person responsible for that and make him pay and that is what Obama did. This is undeniably one of Obama's biggest achievements in his entire presidential term.
