At the same time, Amelia Earhart was becoming famous for her aviation achievements. Amelia Earhart was born in Atchison, Kansas, on July 24, 1897. In those days, airplanes were not nearly as common as they are now. At that time she was visiting her sister in Toronto. Earhart was at the age of 12 years old before she ever saw an airplane, and she did not take her first flight until 1920. Amelia was very excited when she was able to ride on a pane. Right after the ride she quickly started taking flying lessons. She wrote, "" as soon as I left the ground, I knew that I myself had to fly (Glines 2).Earhart excelled as a one of the best pilots. Her first instructor was Neta Snook, one of the first women to graduate from the Curtiss School of Aviation. Earhart borrowed money from her mother to buy a two-seat plane. She got her U.S. flying license in December 1921, and by October 1922, she set an altitude record for women of 14,000 feet. In 1923, Earhart received her international pilot's license, being only the 16th woman to do. After a while of having her first plane, she knew it was time to get a new one. The new one was a lockheed vega 5B. That plane that she got was the plane she flew across the Atlantic ocean, she also flew it trying to make it around the world.

The co-pilot was a guy named Frederick Noonan. He was mainly in charge of telling her of where to go and what direction to go in. before they crashed Noonan told her what way she needed to go in, but she could not find the island that the needed to land on. Where they crashed at was only 2,000 miles away from the island. She was going around the island a lot but could not find it over all the mist. The first plane that she bought and rebuilt was a Kinner Airster for $2,000 (Glines 3). The plane was unstable, two seat biplane powered by a 3- cylinder, 60-hp Lawrence L-2 engine. (Glines 2). The airplane was painted yellow, and Amelia promptly named it The Canary. (Glines 2). There is no denying Amelia had difficulty learning how to fly. It took her 15 hours of flight time and nearly a year to fly solo with the Kinner. (Glines 2). At that time she did have quite a bit of mishaps, but she never gave up. She kept doing quite a bit of tuning up on the plane. Then she would go right back out there and try again. There were many theories made up about what could have happened to her. Like some people say the the plane just crashed in the Pacific Ocean. Or, perhaps she crashed the plane but survived then was captured by japanese people. Or like she could have been captured and was imprisoned on an island and died of starvation. There was one that was said that she could have made it to an island that was known to many predators. One of the archaeologist that were there to find clues. Found some of her belongings, they found a pocket knife that looked like Amelia's knife. (Glines 4).

They also found some parts of the plane. (Glines 4). They found out it was her plane because on the wing of the plane it had a number code on it. They also found remains by a tree. (Glines 5).Th`1e remains were 9 feet in the ground. (Glines 5).The remains that were found, was said to be the remains of Frederick Noonan. But now that they look at the remains it could be the remains of Amelia. They will keep looking for which one it really is. The bone resembled a man but the face could be womens. They just recently found her goggles that she wore. ( Anastasia 4).Even though she got to do her dream, but not finish it. She still inspired a lot of women that they are just as capable of doing dangerous stuff like flying just like men. Even though she was the first woman to fly across the Atlantic Ocean. What had happened to her was a big tragedy in the history. Amelia Earhart's disappearance will alway be an inspiration in women and men. She will be remembered forever she was a good pilot, and she was a proud person. Even when she was alive people still looked up to her. She inspired so many people, now people can know that as long as you try and keep trying.
