In present academic session (July, 2017) Prof. Ravindra Kumar, Vice Chancellor, Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU), New Delhi announced Free education for transgender persons/children in all programmes of IGNOU through Open Distance Learning (ODL) mode. This is really big move in the direction of educational opportunity to transgender persons/students with motivating and favourable environment.
This move will set an example to other universities of the country and it will help in creating acceptance of transgender persons in educational institutes, in developing attitudinal barrier free environment for their education and skill development. Now transgender students can continue their education/learning for their better development. The main causes of discrimination towards transgender are they poor affection of family towards the child. If parents become practical and when they adapt with the child and help & encourage the transgender child it will be free of inferiority complex. The second role is of the school where, the child tends to identify themselves teachers peers and management should be a support rather than a harassing or bulling factor. Then it is the role of media where transgender should be visualized with respect and dignity rather than using them as the entertainment factor to bully. Then it is the government part to include more schemes for the development of transgender & should provide more job opportunities, awareness programs against the diseases, counselling for transgender should be provided.
