How it works

To provide better educational opportunities and inclusion of transgender children our teachers must be sensitized and skilled in teaching the class which has transgender students. Beside about the importance of transgender children society should be made aware with reference related issues of transgender children.

Most of the textbooks only contain the characters of feminine role and masculaine role it is important to infuse relevant transgender content into lectures, reading and textbooks so that they may feel that they are also a members in the society. Rather than calling the students as a boy or girl the teacher need to call the students with their name because each and every person has own dignity and self respect. This practice will boost their confidence and acceptance in society.

In present academic session (July, 2017) Prof. Ravindra Kumar, Vice Chancellor, Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU), New Delhi announced Free education for transgender persons/children in all programmes of IGNOU through Open Distance Learning (ODL) mode. This is really big move in the direction of educational opportunity to transgender persons/students with motivating and favourable environment.

This move will set an example to other universities of the country and it will help in creating acceptance of transgender persons in educational institutes, in developing attitudinal barrier free environment for their education and skill development. Now transgender students can continue their education/learning for their better development. The Human Rights Campaign’s Transgender Children and Youth page includes resources for families, community members, school officials and more.

Co-published with the American Academy of Pediatrics and the American College of Osteopathic Pediatricians, the Human Rights Campaign Foundation’s “Supporting & Caring for Transgender Children” is a groundbreaking resource that explains how families and healthcare professionals can help transgender and gender-expansive children thrive. HRC Foundation’s Welcoming Schools is the nation’s premier professional development program providing training and resources to elementary school educators on a range of issues, including how to support transgender and non-binary students.

Gender Spectrum offers information and training for families, educators, professionals, and organizations, helping them creating gender-sensitive and inclusive environments for all children and teens. Trans Youth Equality Foundation provides education, advocacy and support for transgender and gender-expansive young people and their families. Programs include support groups, camps and retreats, and a popular Tumblr blog for youth.(1)

The main causes of discrimination towards transgender are they poor affection of family towards the child. If parents become practical and when they adapt with the child and help & encourage the transgender child it will be free of inferiority complex. The second role is of the school where, the child tends to identify themselves teachers peers and management should be a support rather than a harassing or bulling factor. Then it is the role of media where transgender should be visualized with respect and dignity rather than using them as the entertainment factor to bully. Then it is the government part to include more schemes for the development of transgender & should provide more job opportunities, awareness programs against the diseases, counselling for transgender should be provided. The family, school, media, government sector together form a society & if the fore said are followed properly a day is not far when the transgender are treated with respect in the society.
