With an increasingly conservative majority, the Supreme Court has issued a series of decisions on equal employment opportunity laws that make it harder for women and minorities to successfully wage discrimination. Women remain significantly underrepresented in corporate America. While women of color are the most underrepresented group of all. Women of all backgrounds are continuing to push for promotions at the same rate as men. This paper argues the conflict in the public sector where women have experienced a huge cut and discrimination in the government over the last six years.

Women have historically been underrepresented in the public sector; they have been disproportionately affected by state and local government budget cuts. Women should have just as equal rights as men in the workforce an should not be classified as unfit because they are women. To understand this argument, we should know first how discrimination is an issue for women in their workplace and how women are affected by the glass ceiling. Second, the gender gap that comes with stereotyping women creates barriers among the job opportunities. Thirdly, analyze and organize some solutions that will be helpful for women to obtain the same opportunities as males.

First, one of the biggest issues in the workplace is discrimination, it causes conflicts that increase tension among the workers. It is clear that work culture devalues the contribution of female employees. Gender discrimination is illegal under the Civil Rights Act of 1964. This law is supposed to ensure that there is no discrimination towards an employment on the basis of color, religion, sex, or national origin, as well as race. Women discrimination has shown how they are being oppressed to saying nothing in fear of losing their jobs and finding themselves under the glass ceiling (barrier to advancement in a profession, especially affecting women and minorities). Women are unable to speak, change, and obtain access to better job, Which explains why race, origin, and sex are a disadvantage for women in the market place.

The problem is that there are many formal barriers that prevent women from being promoted due to conservative beliefs that they are not strong enough to do a man’s job. Although the idea that women should have an equal opportunity of obtaining a better position in the workforce is a very controversial topic, still there is nothing being done. As mentioned in the article, white and Asian American women, who are resource rich compared to Latinas and Black women, are more involved in nontraditional form of political participation. Although there are significant differences in women’s social positioning due to marginalization based on race and ethnicity, both white and minority women share in the negative effects of gender in a patriarchal society.

Secondly, one of the main arguments most males will address is that there is not any gender gap in the companies, also that women do not experience discrimination or barriers among the job opportunities. They expressed that there is no problem in their workplace. However, according to the article, jobs required strength for which men were better suited (Eriksson, et al., 2012). The article also mentioned how men raised wage in the general labor market was greater than the females. Hiring a male means that they are getting pay for their sex. This implies that firms were slow to feminize their time rate workplace (Eriksson, et al., 2012). In other words, women have been affected in the work place dealing with discrimination and sexual harassment. A man’s variation of stereotyping creates barriers in the selection, promotion, or evaluation of women.

The judgement can be by their look, dress, and physical appearance, meaning they have to follow the demanded standard each corporation have, creating issues among job opportunities. Also, it explores all the different social roles theories that includes some of the expectations about appropriate or inappropriate behavior for both men and women. The traditional masculine norm that expresses how males are the head of the family which means they have to provide with economic resources, while women provide domestic work which includes child-caring and care-giving activities. Furthermore, in the article, “Glass Ceiling Devalues Women Job Opportunities”, the author describes the effort males in Corporate America made to retain and promote more females accounting professionals (Cohen, et al., 2014).

This article shows how unfair both male and corporations act when deciding the promotion of different workers due to their gender (Cohen, et al., 2014). Society decides to provide better jobs for men than women because they believed that they would get more work done from the men than the women simply based on stereotypes. As mentioned earlier, many people including men believe that women are capable of doing only one job in the workplace but once an action is taken, men decide to argue against it levels the advantages.

Thirdly, the first solution to resolve the issue of sexism and glass ceiling is to act. The Equal Rights Act form 1964 is supposed to provide equality between both genders, race and ethnicity, yet there is still a leadership gap between both genders. The second solution to ensure gender equality could be by introducing this issue to the U.S supreme court which is the final judge on the laws from congress and constitution. Therefore, if the law is approved by the supreme court the workplace should or will have to incorporate it in their companies including a fine or serve in jail if any workplace breaks the policy.

The way to make sure there is gender equality in the work place is to implement a regular report on the workplace in which they will describe either if things are changing or not; specifically, on women and minorities (Eriksson, et. al, 2012). The workplace will have to report the increases on promotions for women in the same level as men, this could help the law with the following verification in job positions. Glass ceiling is a factual issue that not only come from private entities, we can see how in all the subsections they include race and discrimination out and inside the workplace (Opokugyimah, 2017). The third solution is to implement a platform in which people can submit their applications for a job position meaning that those forms won’t require a gender revelation. That would allow people to get those positions they want to achieve; specially women, it can also lower the gap in leadership around companies (Reid & Clayton, 1992). As a result, it would decrease the number of women under the glass ceiling, that way both genders would have the same opportunities in the workplace (Cohen, et al., 2014).

Overall, women deserve work equity and treatment in the workplace. It is not fair that men get more opportunities among others. Women have the same abilities to work; so, some differences like strength and gender should not be a requirement to obtain any job. There is a considerable amount of men that would not argue with women getting the same positions or race in any company, including gender equity and sexism in the workplace. Also, there are solutions that as a society we should consider important to achieve; like the creation of communities that could improve equality for all. There should not be leadership gaps between women and minorities if they are trying to obtain the same jobs. Someone’s ability, appearance or gender should not define your treatment and any achievement. Women’s fight for equality in the workplace should not be define by sex. Therefore, women deserve equal opportunities and fair treatment in the workplace.
