How it works

Of Mice and Men is about a duo that is the greatest duo that roamed the 1930’s. Sexism is shown when Lennie told Curley's wife to go away because he didn't want curly to get mad. Prejudice, stereotyping, or discrimination, typically against women, on the basis of gender. “The government and society were dispelled by the new deal.”Sexism in the great depression was when women were not doing big jobs like today's society and people has a strong bias towards women.

Women were mostly maids and cooks. The professional jobs slowly increased by 20% in the 30’s. Sexism was really harsh and had a major impacts in Of Mice and Men. Sexism in the 1930’s was basically when women would expect job problems. It was a lot harder for a women to get a job than a man. Now in today's world everything has to be “equal” because our world is not tough. The people think that everything should be fair. In the 30’s it was not like this people were tougher.

People didn't freak out and be sad if something mean was said, they lets it roll off of them. “Today's society is to soft”. Most people think that men make more money than women but that is false. I'm not saying that i’m saying this but most of the time men just do better jobs. Now it's not sexist it's just true. Look women can physically do these jobs but not as many woman do these big jobs as men. “As women we face intimidation, cat calls, inappropriate comments.”

I do not agree with this. The media hypes it up, to make it sound bad but it's really not. How ever sexism isn’t as bad as it used to be in the 1930’s. Sexism was not the only form of discrimination. But to some people it’s the most important and has the most impact. Back in the 1930’s women couldn’t vote and get powerful jobs. Apparently men were not respectful to women which I disagree with, I thought they were more respectful. Women also couldn’t smoke in public. I don’t agree with most of this stuff but that a little crazy!

Women were “supposed to only have babies”. I don’t agree with that, but sexism is a very sad topic. “Yea married two weeks and got the eye? Maybe that’s why curley's pants are full of ants.” Sexism is shown here because she apparently flirts with everyone. She is the only women farmer on the ranch so it could be tough. “Ranch with a bunch of guns on it ain’t no place for a girl especially like her.”This is sexist because they were intending that guns aren’t for girls. I don’t know if they intended that but back then girls didn’t own guns. Sexism is not a joke. But however media sources make this topic way worse. In the 1930’s they didn't have media but they had newspapers and it probably didn't go after sexism. They probably didn't think it was a thing. I think after the great depression sexism got a lot better because they had nothing, so men respected women. I don't know if that's true but that's what i think.
