Crisis Counseling Based on Biblical Teachings

To deal with the situation in best manner that suits all parties, it is critical to realize the clear differences between crisis interventionist and the role of a church member. As a church member who has been called upon to help the widowed woman, my role will be to give her counsel and comfort that is based on biblical teachings. Within this role, my conduct with the widow will also be guided by the church doctrine and church leaders.

However, as a crisis interventionist my role will be strictly guided by the professional ethics.

The basis for crisis intervention in this situation is informed by the fact that young widow needs psychological care so that she can finish the process of mourning her husband and resume normal life. At the heart of crisis intervention, lies the need to move the affected person from the overwhelming context of pain and return her back to normal and functional life (Kanel, 2018). As a result, it is vital to recognize that the normalcy must be aligned to her roles at the nuclear family level.

The widow in this case is defined by the role of motherhood. She requires to be brought back into the role of a mother. This role is complicated by the fact that her children are quite young and need maximum care since they are not yet fully functional on their own. To lift a person out of trauma, it is critical to create a conducive atmosphere in which professionalism can thrive (Wright, 2014). As such, applying Caplan’s seven characteristics would provide the best avenue for healing the widow from her sense of loss. This means that the first thing to do is search for more information with regards to realistic solutions to the widow. This would involve looking for information on how bests to help her with the children and getting a suitable job. A job will help the widow to provide basic needs for her family. It is important to express the emotions of loss and empathy with the widow.

Thereafter, it is necessary for me to show positive emotions and lift her spirits from the depression of loss. In addition, I would also look for other people who can help her with job placement and temporary aide. Thereafter, breaking the problems into manageable bits will increase my understanding of all the problems that the widow is dealing with and form the best solutions. Avoiding fatigue while in crisis intervention will require that I take breaks from the situation to relax and look for better ways of helping the widow with psychological comfort.

Also, flexibility will be extremely important in this situation. It will enable me to make time for the widow and her children without appearing too rigid and authoritative. This will also help them to relax and take the process as a natural and normal procedure. Importantly, it is significant for me to trust myself and have confidence that I can help the family. When a crisis interventionist exhibits confidence, his clients develop faith in him (Wright, 2014).

In conclusion, I would handle this situation well and ensure that by the time the intervention session ends, the widow is able to return to normal life. I would also have to be present in my own home and make my family understand and appreciate my efforts towards helping the widow. Having a healthy balance between personal and professional lives, will ultimately lead to successfully caring for the widow and her children.
