How it works

Just because you have a raincoat on, it doesn’t mean you are not going to get wet. Wearing a condom does not mean your 100% safe! There’s no type of condom that prevents pregnancy or sexually transmitted diseases most of the time, but that’s not for sure. There’s no way to secure diseases from spreading, through a condom. There’s a large number of teens being sexually active today, who have no idea what they’re getting their self into. The number of sexually transmitted diseases has only increased throughout the years and history. Having a Sexual Health Education at the start of middle school can help in many ways. The more kids know, the more they will say no. Having the Sexual Health Education program is only important!

According to the Center for Disease Control, the most common college campus STD is the Human Papillomavirus (HPV) the cause of genital warts as well as cervical cancer. A close second to HPV is the bacterial STD Chlamydia which is transmitted through vaginal, anal and oral sex. If left untreated Chlamydia can cause serious and permanent damage to both men and women’s reproductive organs. The third most contracted STD is Genital Herpes or more specifically HSV-2. With almost one in five college students infected it’s becoming a pretty large problem on campuses across the country. It’s spread very easily the same way as Chlamydia but is not curable so once you have it it’s with you for life.

These are alarming trends. Many of us agree the biggest issue contributing to these outcomes is a lack of education. Knowledge, in this case, is power! Although most would agree it is the parents’ job to educate their children about sexuality, this is clearly notalwayshappening. What do we do? Many are arguing for formal sex education. This type of education starts when the child starts to school. These programs include age-appropriate, medically accurate information on a broad set of topics related to sexuality, including human development, relationships, decision-making, abstinence, contraception, and disease prevention. The courses are taught by an educator formally trained in the area of sexuality.

According to the article, “”More College Students May Be at Risk for STDs”” sexually transmitted diseases are becoming more common within the young American population between the ages of 18-24 which is college year’s age. During the ages of 18-24 which could be seen as the adolescent and Early Adulthood years of Erickson’s Theory of Stages of Development in which young adults are trying to explore and experiment while trying to find themselves and connect with others on a social level.

This, of course, sets a sexual environment in where it leads to many young adults being sexually active with other people. These diseases, of course, are sexually transmitted so it also creates a haven for sexual disease to spread and multiply. The major problem is unprotected sexual encounters with no form of protection which leads to many cases of people transmitting these sexual diseases.

Education is a major combat for this problem as parents need to teach their children about the consequences of sex and what can be done to avoid these measures and they need to be realistic in this perspective. Many parents, do not like to imagine their children growing up and experiencing adult experiences so they tend to shy away from this topic or say, “”Be abstinent for the rest of your years until you find a person that you want to marry””, but, life is not always as black and white as this statement. The answer for this growing problem is for course in college during the freshman years in courses like “”College 101″” or “”College Freshman seminar”” to give them a reminder of the consequences of their decisions and how it can affect others.

One of the major topics that people need to be educated on is sexual activities.Yes, this may be an awkward topic for people to talk about. What a lot of people do not get is sex education makes people more aware of the different outcomes whether positive or negative when engaging sexual activity.

The education systems mainly focus on five components that really help people learn the risk of sexual activities. The five most common studied component learned to accord to the article are,”” HIV knowledge, condom use, self-efficacy related to HIV prevention (e.g., confidence in refusing sex or confidence in using condoms during sex), initiation of first sex, and the number of sexual partners.”” (Sex Ed. 1)

STD’s are dangerous and sometimes cannot be cured, if not given attention to as fast as possible. It can even lead to severe problems at pregnancy and childbirth. When comes to Human Papillomavirus and Bacterial STD Chlamydia, it can be cured but most of the times not. When it comes to the third most common STD, Genital herpes or HSV-2, you have no choice but to live with it. According, to the Department of Health and Services,among U.S. high school students surveyed in 2013 (WashingtonDC),47% have had sexual intercourse at least once,34% are currently sexually active,15% have had four or more sex partners during their life, andOnly 13% of students had ever been tested for HIV.

Leading to more change of STD’S and teenpregnancyat a young age. Also, combing that the United States has one highest teenpregnancyin the developed world can lead to more STD’S and birth problems. Therefore, the Formal sex education program is a good idea!

Having a Sexual Health Education Program, when a child starts school can help thepercentageof STD’S and teenpregnancydecrease. Although, some can say it’s bad for a child to know any sexual information at a young age. it’s also better to inform them at a young age so they can develop stronger and smarter actions in the future. It gives them theknowledgeto learn and grow, because either way, they will know this information in the future. So why not give them the rightdecisionmaking, that gives them better advice and heads up about this situation.

Instead of giving them no information at all, until their “”old enough””. Thedevelopmentof health and human services agree thatSchool health education can help teens adopt lifelong attitudes and behaviors that support overall health and well-being- including those that reduce their risk forHIVand othersexually transmitted diseases(STDs), andpregnancy.37 million (91%) attend a public or private school for at least 6 hours a day during the most critical years of their social, physical, and intellectual development. This program in their everyday life can help them make safer choices and grow to learn what’s a right and the wrong review of 48 comprehensive curriculum-based sex and STD/HIV education programs found that none of these programs increased the likelihood of teens having sex.

This falls in the Elementary school self-concept development stage. (5-12) Where their learning new skills in an academic and social environment, also comparing themselves to others. (Industry VS. Inferiority) Proving that kid’s brain is growing to socialize and compare themselves to others. Having the program can make them learn new skills and develop it in the right way. It is the parent’s job to push their kids and help them do better. But they will not tell them that every day. That’s why this Sexual health of education is the key to their knowledge.
