How it works

The ocean is home to the most wildlife in the entire world. Every day people are destroying life in the ocean by polluting it. There are many different endangered animals in the ocean. Every day they are being killed off by man-made pollutants. The ocean covers more than eighty percent of the Earth so we should protect it by, being more conservative, recycling, and cleaning out the ocean (noaa.gov). Plastic pollution is deeply reflected on humans; over half of the ocean’s pollution is traced back to the land where it was dropped off by humans, Plastic being the lead pollutant is constantly in use (conserve-energy-future.

com). It is used in bags, bottles, toys, etc. and it does not just disappear in the ocean.

It is very common for fish to eat trash but, the plastic they are eating can lead them to die. Plastic is being put in the ocean in multiple different ways like sewers and people just flat out littering. It does not just magically disappear in the ocean, when the plastic is dumped into the ocean it remains in the ocean until it is eaten by a fish or it just sits there for decades slowly falling apart. Creatures in the ocean are becoming endangered because of plastic and other pollutants (nrdc.org). Every day people throw away their trash not knowing where it goes when people litter whether it is on the street or in the middle of the woods, trash can still end up getting back into the ocean. It has gotten so bad that there are giant islands of straight up trash out in the ocean. one of the islands has been proven to be two times as large as the state of Texas (conserve-energy-future.com). Pollution is not just trash, sometimes it could be algae. Algae by itself is not a big problem it is algae overgrowth that matters. It is caused by too many minerals in the water. Ships too can pollute a body of water if it is sunken or fuel gets spilled, it can be dangerous for navigation with ships trying to make it’s way around other sunken ships right below. Not only are ships affects by this, for instance, one-third of all U.S. shellfish are affected by pollution today (noaa.gov). Over one million birds like seagulls are killed each year killed by pollution in the air and in the ocean (conserve-energy-future.com). Although eighty percent of all pollution comes from land there can still be pollutants that are created in the ocean itself. Oil leaks are probably the most guessed pollutant from the ocean because that is probably the only thing that involves humans (noaa.org).

Oil leaks are not super common but, they do happen and when it does happen it can affect thousands of fish in the process and kill a lot of life in the ocean. Another way junk is put in the ocean is by sewers, septic tanks and more. While sewage is being dumped in the ocean casually every day, in urban areas someone’s car or truck could have been damaged on the road and leak out oil and fuel. The liquids could possibly make it’s way to the ocean if not properly cleaned up (noaa.gov). Pollution is something everyone needs to take into consideration because every little bit counts toward a cleaner world. The New American Standard Bible states, “So you shall not pollute the land in which you are; for blood pollutes the land and no expiation can be made for the land for the blood of him who shed it.” (Numbers 35:33). What this is basically saying is to keep the world clean even if others do not. First off God told his followers to keep the world clean. Second thing is that eighty percent of the pollution comes from land. If that much pollution comes from land then the world should start by cleaning and preserving the land. The world needs to not just clean out the ocean but clean out the place where it started.
