My Experience with Football
My parents always told me I could do anything I wanted. However stepping out of my comfort zone was very hard. One day I told my parents that I was going to set my limits high. They of course thought that was very funny. Anxiety is the constant worrying and fear that runs though your head everyday. This didn’t stop me from trying what I’ve always wanted to try.
However two years ago I made the decision to play football. A huge leap out of my comfort zone.
My motivation was everyone who told me I could not do it. Now I’m in the girls locker room completely alone so quite you could hear a pin drop. I had a helmet that weighted more then me on my head bouncing around. The pads way broader than my actual shoulders almost so big they were sliding off. And then my belt holding up my pants the belt was so big it looped around my tiny waist at least three times. I was 5’2” with long brown hair stretching all the way down my back and a solid 94 pounds.
All one needs to do anything is determination and that’s exactly what I had. All summer I prepared for this mentally and physically by making sure I was in the weight room everyday. Preparing for double sessions. Day one its four in the morning I’m wide awake with a million thoughts running through my head. Everything is completely foreign almost like they are speaking a different language. Im the only girl here and by far the tiniest one. I knew it would be hard physically but it was way harder then I imagined mentally. I was pushed to my physically limits. This taught me to always push forward in my goals and achieve what I want to accomplish in spite of what people said.
My time spend with the football team, created some of the most cherished me memories and helped me get in the best physical shape of my life. Pushing for something you really want to do makes anything possible. I’m so glad I got the courage to step out of my comfort zone and try something new. I can now carry on things that i have learned from my experience and encourage others to also take a step out of there comfort zone.
