For example based on McDonalds menus the price of a popular meal item, a medium Quarter Pounder meal, is about $7.99. If a family of four were to all order a medium Quarter Pounder meal it would cost about $31.96. If you were to make hamburgers at home it would be way cheaper. It costs about $3.714 for one pound of ground beef according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics.

It costs about $1.19 for a Market Pantry pack of eight hamburger buns from target. Therefore it would cost about $4.904 for a family of four to eat hamburgers that weigh ?? of a pound. According to the USDA’s Agricultural Marketing Service it costs about $2.55 for a 5 pound sack of potatoes to make fries. This makes your overall total of a hamburger and fry meal at home for a family of four $7.454 which is way cheaper than eating at a fast food restaurant.

Next, it is safer to eat at home. There have been multiple foodborne illnesses reported from these fast food restaurants since 1993: McDonald’s, Chipotle, Jack in the Box, and Taco Bell. According to healthline at Jack in the Box in 1993 100 were reported ill and of those 100 four people died. At Taco Bell in 2006 71 were reported ill.

At Chipotle in 2015 55 were reported ill. According to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention at McDonald’s in 2018 511 were reported ill. In addition to all of those foodborne illnesses you do not know how sanitary the restaurant is and how they keep their food stored. This makes it safer to eat at home because you know about how you store your food, how you cook it, and how clean your kitchen is.

Finally, if you eat fast food all the time it will affect your appearance and body. According to healthline it affects your appearance by causing: acne, weight gain, bloating, puffiness, and dental distress. It affects your body by causing: depression, shortness of breath, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, heart disease, strokes, fertility problems, and headaches. According to healthline in a study children who eat fast food multiple times a week are at a higher risk of getting asthma.

Some may argue that people get fast food because it is quick and cheap. There are actually multiple options of quick and cheap homemade meals that you can make and if you’re in a rush you can always pack it up and take it to go. For example crockpots are great for cooking different meals without you needing to monitor it. You can put what you want to eat in there on low before you leave for school or work and by the time you’re ready for dinner it should be done cooking and it does most of the work for you. Some other quick and cheap homemade meals include: pasta, sandwiches, hamburgers, quesadillas, and many more.

In conclusion, it is overall better to cut fast food from your diet. For example it is cheaper to eat at home, it is safer to eat at home, and it will affect your appearance and body if you eat it all the time. In addition to homemade meals being better for you they usually taste better too.
