How it works

Despite all the protest that international women’s rights movement from the Seneca Falls in 1848 to the National American Woman Suffrage Association in 1890, and the National Women party in 1916. In China women never had the privilege to show what they are capable of doing because that was not a ladylike thing in their family. Women have always been the primary abduction target since the early 1900s to 2005 because it was unacceptable that they had a higher population right than men. Family traditions were still to be followed in the 1940s until the present day, and not contradicted because if not they would be a “disgrace” to their own family, however, if not following rules women face consequences that either their husband or fathers had for them.

Have laws been enacted in China from the early 1940s to the present day, and have the laws failed or been enforced? Also, how have Chinese women been affected by the Republic Revolution in 1911 to the Communist Revolution in 1949?  Women’s rights movement brought no change to Chinese women lifestyle. Although women internationally were fighting for their rights, Chinese women’s rights are still suppressed now in the present day because of the high population since the 1940s, traditional family rights early 1940s, and laws that have passed in 1950s, and working rights in agricultural work and also low paid jobs in the 1960s.

It has always been to accept that women have no rights at all for example living in China was not easy at all especially during the 1940s. China had its primary focus on women and critical phases of their lives because in the early 1940s women had a high population.  They focused on Chinese women’s health as noticing the multiplied for various reasons. This affected woman because they were trying to find a way to decrease their population because men were more important because they were the ones to maintain a family. China is the country with a large population as well women had a high population “in the world -548. Sixty-nine million females in 1990.”   Although women had a high population, in China it was a tradition that as soon as a woman got married, she had to move to her husband’s home. A boy was more preferred in the family because they would be the heirs of the family, so that would cause a “higher female infant mortality rate.”  During the 1930’s they noticed big gender discrimination between male and female and had an extreme mental health effect on them.  In rural areas, the female labor force was still in use because they believe in their cultural beliefs. Between the 1930s and 1940s ultrasound machines were still not invented they started to do sex-selective abortions when finding out the gender of the fetus if not they would wait until the mother gave birth. Those from poorer families that lived through female infanticide either, in which a lot of young infants were either “abandoned, starved, drowned or often sold to child trafficking.”  They were so focused on decreasing women population that in the late 1970s they passed the law of one-child policy. For those who had more than one kid would receive penalties. And, after giving birth and the baby was a girl that’s when at the hospital they would force the mom to have an abortion or abandoned their daughter and let her die. It affected low-income women since they did not have the money or a respected last name than they had no choice to abandon their daughter because they had to obey the rules. That was being done to reduce women population it ended working out that men had a higher gender rate. In the late 1980s, the government felt compassionate about the women that in the rural areas they allowed women to have two children. It showed us the Inequality they had the rise of gender toward the woman as they were not wanted in China because men were superior. And we can relate it today that still in some places they do not have the rights they should because if cultural beliefs.

Around the early 1940s, there was a debate in Japan if widows would be able to remarry it related to Chinese women because they as well were not able to remarry. It was a belief for them as well that they had to respect their husband in any situation. They took a poll between the young woman that was going to school, and there was not a big difference as “58 percent for remarriage and 42 percent were against remarriage”.  The percent for remarriage was higher in the city than in rural areas because they still believed in their cultural beliefs. Senior women believed that even though they were widows, they were still to act like if they were married because they needed to honor their name. When thinking about a man and a women’s relationship it is meant forever because their husband took them in as another responsibility, but a Chinese woman was to respect and treat her husband well. But, after getting married, they would get mistreated because they would exclude them from their beneficial rights. Due to arranged marriages no matter the economic position they were forced to live in the home and village of their husband and his family, “whom they had usually never met.”  Marriage was one of the cruelest moments because they would arrange it by foot size, so the women had to go through the process of getting foot binding.  When marriage began, it was one of the hardest emotionally and humiliating time of their lives.

They passed laws that women should have the same equal rights as men, but in certain areas like China that has still not happened. It is a tradition that men are respected and also have an important role, as women are expected to follow her husband’s rules. For more than 2000 years, until 1950, China was an old-fashioned society with a totalitarian system. In certain areas in China, “men hold the view that men are superior.”  Antique men hold the belief that women are tools to” produce offspring and to satisfy their sexual desire.”  As of January 1, 1981, they passed the Marriage Law it set equality between women and men, and women now had the protection of legitimate rights. Although these laws were passed not in all areas of China, they enforced them. Old fashioned men still believed that their wives were under their control since the government did not enforce laws in the countryside’s of China. They saw some hope of things changing for them as the Inheritance law that they were now able to receive property if their father had said anything in his testament. Before laws started to come in action after young teenage girls or even women that got married were agreeing that anything they had of value would pass onto their husband and they would control her inheritance. There were some types of works that are unacceptable because they do not accept the idea of the laws that protect women. In certain villages, they gather with other towns, and they try to impede the law. The leaders of different government committees they should realize that women deserve all the protection need.

As things started to change for Chinese women, there were only higher-class women in the late 1900s that they too part of social and political committees. The traditional laws were also being modified in taking process in “Myanmar, Thailand, and Vietnam where laws influenced by Buddhist values on the marriage relationship.”  Women now had the opportunity to get a divorce without being a disgrace to the family. If they were in an abusive marriage and had evidence to prove it than the divorcing process was easier. Muslim world often tended to promote women’s rights in the “areas of education, employment, juridical redress, and family law to spur economic and social development.”  Not only in Chinese women fighting for their equal rights, but also in other places around the eastern side.

Furthermore, it all leads to in China, men are superior to women, while a woman was there attending men’s needs. Women only had one job to take care of their husband through good and bad and be supportive. It did not matter of where a woman was living in the late 1940s, “gender differences and employment opportunities were substantial.”  Although they said that a woman’s employment opportunity was important, that was not true because they would give them a harder manly job so that they could quit the job. They knew a woman was not going to able to handle a man’s job and they would feel humiliated after working long hours in the heat. Men knew that if a woman was able to be independent on her own and continue working toward her rights. During the 1950’s it talked about how “women crossed boundaries between household and work.”  It was hard for a woman to challenge a man’s view about working, but younger women were working for their rights. Women hold up to “twenty-five percent of household chores and agricultural production.”  There were not many women who got their education, but the ones that were there “monthly salary were from 70- 75 yuan”.  Teachers had a low wage income that some did not prefer to continue their education. Chinese woman will never have a privilege for a job because in a job advertisement it will always preferably say men only. And, if a woman had the chance of getting hired was because they were beautiful. In 2010 a lot of women “faced sexual harassments and intimidation and preferably left their jobs.”  Jobs advertisement always repeated that you had to be strong, and willing to handle pressure. Women were discriminated due to their gender and physical appearances and did not have an opportunity to succeed in life this helps other understand the Diverse ways of thinking and see that women did not have the freedom to succeed in life. Younger Chinese women that are going to get their education don not follow those rules because they are fighting for what they believe So now you see Chinese women getting their education and being able to work where they desire without getting discriminated.

They passed many laws in China, but they have failed to enforce the rules. As traditional rights are still to obey, and they took away their labor rights away from them, and there was a vastly decrease in woman population. There were laws passed in the early 1950s but in rural areas laws were not enforced because in villages they had their leaders. As they lost their working rights because their only job was to attend their new family and in other cases, the ones that did get the positions were humiliating. Women were most affected by the Republic Revolution in 1911 to the Communist Revolution in 1949. They had to obey anything their husbands or even his mother would have her do. To now present-day women can dress however they want, and also, they can work or get an education.
