The Criminal Justice System
Victim is found to be innocent of any crime. Racial profile exists in our society and this results in stereotyping those who are dressed a certain way, the way they walk, the color of their skin, and the neighborhood they live in. “The impact of stop and frisk is of critical importance because of the dilemma inherent in aggressive policing in high-need communities” (Haldipur,2019). Individuals who live in the so called “ghetto neighborhoods” are usually stereotyped as poor and criminals. Racial profiling affect these individuals in several ways simply as losing their trust in law enforcement. There were several effects this policy caused in families such as the youth were staying in afterschool programs to stay off the streets, parents were humiliated in front of their children and many wanted to move out of the city but money was an issue. Many argue that the stop and frisk gives the police the ability to abuse their power. These people were raised with a certain culture and they are free to express themselves with their clothing and should not have to be traumatized over getting stopped and hiding from the police.
The criminal justice system plays a major role in our society which is to prevent crimes and to capture those who are endangering our neighborhoods. The huge question is what causes these crimes? Is it because of poverty, greed, or is it the system itself that drives people to commit crimes. The general punishment and consequence for most crimes is incarceration. According to class discussions, we have analyzed how the United States has an extreme high rate of mass incarceration. In the article 50 Years After the Moynihan Report, Examining the Black Family in the Age of Mass Incarceration, Coates emphasized that Moynihan wrote that the black family “battered and harassed by discrimination, injustice, and uprooting, is in the deepest trouble.” this was in support for “all an all-out government assault on the structural social problems that held black families down,” Coates says. Coates argues that we need to consider on how to compensate those individuals who were pleaded guilty or treated unequal for many years.
