Getting a tattoo for the first time will be an amazing experience if you go to the right studio and if you put some thought into your idea of what you want, not just getting the first thing that comes up into your head. Before you go to the tattoo parlor, there are a few things you need to know.

One of the first precautions is to make sure the tattoo parlor is clean and save, you don’t want to risk getting a disease.

You don’t want to get a tattoo at an unclean environment. Make sure the equipment is sterilized to prevent any infection, such as hepatitis, bacterial infections, or dermatitis (severe skin irritation). Also, make sure the gloves and needles the artist using are clean, since the artist is going to be touching your skin.

A tattoo is like a deep wound, made deep into your skin. The tattoo is made by using a tattoo machine. The needle from the tattoo machine penetrates ink into the area that you want your design to be. The ink is not injected into the epidermis, the top layer of the skin because the epidermis produces new skin cells, making the tattoo not be permanent. The ink is injected into the dermis, the second layer of the skin because the cells are very stable, making the tattoo almost permanent. The needle drives the ink about 1 millimeter into your skin, moving in and out.

When getting your tattoo, remember that you must protect and treat it to prevent any infections or complication. Leave the bandage the artist put on your tattoo for a minimum of an hour, not longer. Wash your tattoo with warm water and unscented soap after removing the bandage. Then pat dry with a clean towel and let it air dry for an hour or more before applying a fragrance-free hand lotion. For it to heal, remember to keep your tattoo clean with soap and water. Repeat this process for two weeks.

If deciding to get a tattoo, remember that its permanent, so take some time to think of what you want to get. Getting a tattoo also has a responsibility, you must take care of it, so it won’t get infected.
