How it works

“In our society, today young adults face several problems. Most of us think young adults are ready to start things as college, career, and adult social scenes. Many young adults find it challenging to adapt to creating a change in their life. Substance abuse, violence in school, and family problems are one of the biggest challenges young adults face today. Each challenge has negative impacts on each individual which causes them to occur in bad situations.

Drug and Alcohol abuse can have serious consequences on a persons mental and physical health. It can cause symptoms like tolerance, craving, and loss of control. The CDC in the United States has announced that almost 90,000 people die every year from alcohol or drug use. Young adults have very easy access to a wide variety of drugs, including Adderall or Xanax. No teen tries drugs or alcohol thinking he or she will become addicted, and yet it happens all the time. Teens drinking at a party could be the beginning of alcoholism. Experimentation with drugs can quickly evolve into a dangerous, unshakeable habit. Perhaps the pressures of school, work, or athletics have led him or her to take performance-enhancing drugs. This can include steroids to build muscle, amphetamines to help study, or even meth to lose weight. Some teens start using drugs as a way to cope, whether that be trouble with a classmate, problems at home, or simply excess stress. This is perhaps the most dangerous reason someone begins to abuse alcohol or drugs, especially when you consider that approximately 30% of adolescent suicides are attributed to depression aggravated by drug or alcohol abuse. In 2009, the U.S. Government’s National Institute on Drug Abuse found that 19.9% of 8th Graders, 36% of 10th Graders, and 46.7% of 12th Graders participated in drug use.

Young adults who are exposed to poor parenting are more likely to misbehave. Many young adults have grown up with only one parent or no parents at all. Some young adults have been brought up in orphanages as a result of abandonment by their parents. Bad parenting has been associated with behavioral problems such as criminality and academic problems in children. Ineffective parenting can, directly and indirectly, influence antisocial behaviors, such as lying, stealing, and fighting, in children. Several studies have shown have demonstrated that poor parenting makes it more likely that the children in the family will suffer from symptoms of depression. Particular kinds of poor parenting which have been found to increase the child’s risk of developing depression include, the parent is generally negative and pessimistic, parental use of corporal (physical) punishment of the child, the parent emotionally neglecting the child.

School violence is any activity that can create a disturbance in an educational system. It is not just school shootings. It includes verbal and physical altercations. It is also bullying through electronics means or social media, threats, weapon use, or gang activity. Many schools in the United States know have school shootings, stabbings, fighting, and suicides. Many of the young adults are involved in crime, most of the school shooters are between the age of 16-25. This happens mostly in countries with low-income schools. The effects of school violence can lead to division and severe mental and physical trauma for both perpetrators and victims alike. The main cause of school violence is a combination of weak community relations and a lack of a firm hand within both schools and communities. To effectively deal with the issue, both of these need addressing.

Young adults face many challenges that might cause difficulties in their personal development and compromise their relations with other members of society. Substance abuse, violence in school, and family problems are one of the biggest challenges young adults face today.”
