Introduction
My name is Mariah White, and I am a 16-year-old aspiring nurse with a passion for caring and making a positive impact in the lives of others. Born on February 6th, 2002, at St. Joseph’s Hospital, I am of mixed African American and White heritage. Throughout my life, I have been on a journey of self-discovery, learning to embrace my unique identity and aspirations. This essay explores my personal experiences, aspirations, and the values that define who I am and who I aspire to become.
Thesis Statement
This essay delves into my personal narrative, highlighting my aspirations of becoming a neonatal nurse or midwife, my formative experiences, and the values and lessons that shape my identity and future goals.
Personal Background and Identity
Growing up, my mixed heritage often led to assumptions about my ethnicity, with many people guessing I was Mexican. These experiences taught me the importance of embracing my unique identity and understanding the diverse perceptions of others. I have always been a person with a big heart, who cares deeply for others and strives to make a positive difference in the world. Kindness and empathy are central to my character, as I believe in treating everyone with respect and compassion.
Educational Aspirations and Career Goals
Currently, I am a homeschooled sophomore with a determination to excel academically. My goal is to achieve a 4.0 GPA, as I understand the importance of academic excellence in pursuing my dream career in healthcare. I am passionate about becoming a neonatal nurse or midwife because I love babies and want to support families during critical times. As a neonatal nurse, I would work with newborn infants facing various health challenges, providing care and support to help them thrive. Alternatively, as a midwife, I would assist mothers during childbirth and support their postpartum recovery. Both careers align with my passion for nurturing and caring for others.
Family Dynamics and Influence
I live with my mother, Misty, and my two sisters, Destiny and Hailey. Although we sometimes argue, our family bond remains strong and supportive. My family has taught me the importance of love and resilience, even in challenging circumstances. On my father's side, I have a large extended family with 17 siblings, many of whom I have yet to meet. Despite the complexity of my family dynamics, I cherish the love and support they provide, which has been instrumental in shaping my character and values.
Personality and Personal Growth
I identify as an INFP and ISTJ, personality types reflecting my introspective, caring nature and strong sense of responsibility. My scores on personality assessments indicate that I am introverted, emotionally stable, agreeable, conscientious, and imaginative. These traits influence my approach to life and learning, as I prefer to spend time reflecting and learning through experience. I am sensitive and empathetic, with a deep care for others and the environment, qualities that will serve me well in my future career in healthcare.
Goals and Life Lessons
My goals extend beyond academia. I aim to secure a job to gain financial independence and contribute to supporting the homeless, a cause close to my heart. I also aspire to obtain my driving permit and enhance my culinary skills to cook for my family. These goals reflect my desire to grow personally and give back to my community. Through my experiences, I have learned the importance of self-reliance, leadership, and resilience. I strive to surround myself with positive influences and support those less fortunate, recognizing that challenges are part of life's journey.
Conclusion
In conclusion, my journey is defined by my caring nature, aspirations in healthcare, and the values instilled by my family. As I continue to grow and learn, I remain committed to achieving my academic and personal goals, making a positive impact on the lives of others, and embracing the diverse facets of my identity. Through resilience and determination, I am confident in my ability to navigate life's challenges and contribute meaningfully to society as a compassionate and dedicated healthcare professional.
