The Student’s Guide to Time Management
I manage my time precisely because when I began charting what I did all my time, there was much room for anything unimportant. Therefore, I took care of all my priorities by creating windows for just my essential tasks. For example, I know I must take my sister to school, so I created an alarm an hour before school started. Her school starts at eight o’clock in the morning, so I set my alarm for 7:35 a.
m. That gives us plenty of time to take care of any necessary tasks.
Also, when I am signing up for classes, I always ensure that they fit perfectly with my work schedule and, as I call it, “picking up my sister” schedule. I always like to be early to school and to work. For instance, it takes me about 20 minutes to get to Eastfield, so I leave about 35 minutes before class starts, which gives me about 15 minutes to find parking and get to class. The same goes with work; it takes me 20 to 30 minutes to arrive at the shop, depending on whether there is traffic. I leave about a good 40 minutes before my shift starts. So, all in all, I spend much time in Quadrant 1 because I have a lot of essential things to take care of. However, I also spend much time in quadrant four because I do things in my free time that will never help me in the long run.
Living by the Motto and Enhancing Responsibility
My motto is avoiding obstacles, and I have yet to encounter one. However, I keep pushing forward with school till full completion, and I complete every task assigned to me. A considerable value that I have recently been doing is increasing my levels of reliability and responsibility. For example, my parents leave early to work, so they trust me to get her to school on time and be able to pick her up. Therefore, my parents know I am responsible and reliable, so they trust me to care for my sister. If I continue to manage my time well, it could impact on me positively achieving my goals. I already know what and when to do stuff so I can become even more skillful with even more practice in self-management.
One primary self-management tool I use daily is a monthly calendar, but I use my phone calendar because it is easier to look at what is due and when it is due. However, I use it mainly for school because of all the assignments, quizzes, and tests. It helps me stay on track and not get lost in the dirt. In conclusion, I have learned that there are many other self-management tools that I could use, and maybe I might try one, but for now, I am going to stick with the phone calendar version. Finally, I have learned that the more precise and accurate I am with my time, the more I can create many windows for me to have fun.
