How it works

How do you feel about Gay Marriages? Same sex marriages are a choice made between individuals. However, I am not for same sex marriages because of my Biblical beliefs but I have family, friends and acquaintances that are gay. Most people do not believe in same sex marriages or dating because they believe that it should be a connection between a man and a woman. There are many opinions about this issue but in my opinion, only God (that is if you believe in Him) has the last judgement.

Same sex marriages begun many years ago, however, it did not come to the forefront until back in the 1970s. In researching this issue, I understand that the same sex marriage law came about around 1972 when the Supreme Court dismissed the case of a gay couple (Loving vs. Virginia), that wanted to get married. In 1973, the state of Maryland was the first state to ban same sex marriage.

May 18, 1970 was the beginning of gay marriages. This came about when two students from the University of Minnesota by the name of Richard Baker and James McConnell decided to apply for a marriage license in the Hennepin County and its District Court Clerk, Gerald Nelson denied their application because they were both men and he did not agree with their decision. Later on a law suit was filed due to this case and some states blocked individuals being able to marry.

In the late 1980’s and early 1990’s same sex marriages took a turn for hope when the San Francisco Board of Supervisors granted a law that allowed same sex couples to register for marital partnership. Same sex marriages are on the rise and although support has increased in many areas of the world, demographic divides over same-sex marriage remain indfferences basically among religious groups and generational differences.

The United States and 20 other countries allowed gay and lesbian couples to get married. The Netherlands is the first country to have legalized gay marriages in 2000 with other countries such as Spain, France, Brazil, Canada and other countries following suit and has now legalized same sex marriages.

[bookmark: _yfbxp7di8iko]In concluding this issue, gay marriages, no matter how one may view it, is now reality and more people are letting it be known for whatever reason, that same sex marriages are alright and that it is acceptable by God. The LGBT community has pushed to gain the same rights that we all have in our country today. Even though, I am not in agreement with their lifestyles, it is clearly stated that they have just as many if not more rights than normal individuals when it comes down to sharing property, having insurance, and other benefits that normal married couples obtain. Even though the journey for them is still bleak and they are still fighting, they are continuing to take steps towards a future where they will no longer be discriminated due to sexual preference. As for me, I will stand firm on my belief that marriage is a union between a man and a woman and as long as there is a world, it will forever be. I will continue to treat them as human being because that is our obligations. I specifically do not agree with gay marriage, but to each his/her own. I come to the conclusion that most people feel that the commitment and love shared by each other is the determining factor concerning marriage, whether it be normal or in the eye sight of some, bleat less.

I leave it at this point: According to Webster’s dictionary, Marriage is the legally or formally recognized union of two people as partners in a personal relationship, specifically a union between a man and a woman. The Bible instructs us that a marriage should be a union between a man and a woman, that is ordained by God as the ultimate relationship between one man as the husband, and one woman as the wife. As a matter of fact, this subject will forever remain an issue so therefore it is up to the individuals that cares to be in gay marriages to seek directions ad understanding for themselves to make a decision as to who they will marry.
