Introduction

Describe the story of Plato’s Allegory of the Cave in detail. Three prisoners chained in a cave, their legs and hand are bound and unable to turn their head. Behind their heads are fire and a walkway between them. They haven’t seen the world outside of the cave since they were born. One day one of the prisoners resist and leave the cave. Once he discovered the world outside of the cave, he has begun to understand the new world and realized that his former view of the reality was wrong. He decided to return to the cave and inform the other prisoners his finding, but the other prisoners thought he got crazy and didn’t want to believe him and the story ends here.

Describe a thought experiment in which we will call the prisoner who leaves the Cave “the philosopher.” Everyone else will be called “prisoners.” Imagine that the philosopher returns to the cave and tries to convince the other prisoners to leave. An enlightened prisoner tries to explain the real world and his experience about the side of the cave fellow prisoners not believe him since he knows what truth is. Your One Sentence Thesis: 1) State whether you think the philosopher will be successful at getting all or some of the other prisoners to leave the cave and 2) describe two specific Platonic arguments you think the philosopher would use to convince the others to leave.

The philosopher in the allegory of the cave will be failed to convince the fellow prisoners to leave the cave because prisoners have developed their core beliefs, they will pay attention to any evidence that supports their beliefs and, they are not educated enough to understand what the truth is.

Body Paragraph One:

Topic Sentence: Restate first thesis idea. What were the first Platonic arguments you think the philosopher would use to convince the others to leave and do you think it worked? The philosopher will not be successful to take the fellow prisoners out of the cave since they developed their core beliefs, they will pay attention to evidence that supports their belief. Provide one quotation in MLA format. Reduce to 3 lines if longer using ellipses.

Analysis:

Argument: Why do you think this Platonic argument would or would not work to convince others to leave the cave. It would not work because prisoners believe the contemporary world of ignorance. There are people that live in an ignorant world. Add a concluding sentence reminding the reader of how your examples support your topic sentence claim. Should look similar to the topic sentence but be more detailed. Prisoners scared knowing the truth and limit themselves from education, desire and stay in the world of Forms(fantasy). There are people in society can ignore one’s Idea, they chose an easier path in life and see an only partial side of it- a shadow.

Topic Sentence: Restate first thesis idea. What were the second Platonic arguments you think the philosopher would use to convince the others to leave and do you think it worked? The philosopher fails to convince prisoners to leave the cave because they are not educated enough to understand what the truth is. Provide one quotation in MLA format. Reduce to 3 lines if longer using ellipses.

Less than 4 lines:

Plato writes, “XX.” Plato writes, “if I am right, certain professors of education must be wrong when they say that they can put a knowledge into the soul which was not there before, like sight into blind eyes”. Explain what the quotation is saying in detail in your own words. Make sure a reader unfamiliar with the text would be able to understand you without confusion. Aim for 4-5 or more sentences. Plato believed that people have to desire to learn, no one can get your education and force you to learn. Once you are willing to learn you-you will be able to see the world of ideas. Provide another quotation in MLA format. Reduce to 3 lines if longer using ellipses.

Analysis:

Argument: Why do you think this Platonic argument would or would not work to convince others to leave the cave. In order for prisoners to understand the real world they need to educate themselves and open up their eyes to see the truth once they gain that knowledge they can transfer it to others. Add a concluding sentence reminding the reader of how your examples support your topic sentence claim. Without education, you would dwell in darkness and only educated and extraordinary people will find out the true meaning of the world.

Conclusion

Restate your thesis using new wording (no cutting and pasting from thesis itself) Philosopher would not be able to help his fellow prisoners due to the fact that each person has its own perspective to see the world and illiterate people are unable to see nature of the reality. Your last reflections on this topic. Sometimes the reality is not what we see, if you take a risk and break your comfort zone no matter how painful would be, the final reward would worth it. We live in a society where there are enlightened people and ignorance ones. humans live in nature that they feel safe.
