Amy Winehouse was a famous English singer and songwriter, she wrote many great songs including Valerie and Back to Black. Winehouse would drink her life away and her drug addiction helped in her suffering. Amy went to rehab multiple times in her life span to help her drug addiction but would never seek help for her drinking struggle. After awhile her drug addiction started to fade away and become less of a problem. When she was almost completely done with drugs when her boyfriend broke up with her and caused her to go on a drug and drinking binge. Her drug problem started to become less of a problem again when her mad her boyfriend got back together but, in the end her drinking problem would be the death of her. Many people offered Amy help with her drinking problem including her father but she never accepted anyone’s offer, if she would have accepted someone’s help and got treatment it could have saved her life.

On July 23, 2011 Amy was found dead in her bed with tequila bottles empty on the floor and a laptop next to her on the bed. Amy was only 27 and was at the peak of her career during her untimely death. Over the decades many famous actors, singers and performers have died at the age of 27 and have created the “27 club”. This club includes Kurt Cobain, Jimi Hendrix and many more. Fans of rock and roll notices that a lot of artists were dying at the age of 27 and since this club was created more and more celebrities have been added to the list. Many of these “members” have died from drug overdose but, Heroin, crack cocaine, and cannabis, the drugs she claimed to have been taken were not found in her system during the toxicology report. Instead the report told us she died from alcohol poisoning. At the time the only drugs that could be found in her system were Librium which was prescribed to her by a doctor. Heroine and cannabis are a schedule one drug and crack cocaine is a schedule two. A drug schedule is based off of the abuse of the drug and the acceptable medical use. There are also multiple types of drugs such as opioids, depressants, hallucinogens, and more. Cannabis is a depressant, crack cocaine is a stimulant and heroin is an opioid. The drug type is based on characteristics, effects and danger. Librium was prescribed to her for anxiety or withdrawal symptoms of alcohol. Amy intentionally took the drugs to help with her anxiety and stress of fame. Librium is a schedule fIve drug and a is benzodiazepines drug. This drug affects the Central nervous system and causes a calming effect on the user.

Amy was very famous for her singing at the time and everyone knew who she was. She could no longer go out in public without being recognized therefore she had terrible anxiety and stress. Some of the negative effects of taking Librium are slurred speech, low blood pressure, coordination problems, slowed breathing, dizziness and much more. Some doctors believe that Winehouse suffered from borderline personality disorder (BPD). This medical disorder is one of the many reasons she took Librium and helped contribute to her addictions. When you stop taking librium it can cause many symptoms including sweating, fatigue, vomiting, depression, anxiety, Hallucinations, and seizures. This drug can be very dangerous to quit, therefore it might be better to stay in the drug than to stop taking the drug. The hallucinations can be very dangerous if you are in the wrong place at the wrong time. Part of the reason people continue taking drugs is because it is easier on them to continue than to stop taking the drug and to go to rehab to get better.

At the time of death nobody was suspected for murder. Winehouse has had problems in the past with her addiction so it was no surprise to the people when she was found dead after a drinking binge. Her death was ruled an accidental overdose and wasn’t looked into much farther. Any had a calm childhood. She lived in the suburbs of South Gate London with her mother and father. Her father was a taxi driver and her mother was a pharmacist. Winehouse was not a good student in school and would tend to get into a lot of trouble with the teachers. She knew that one day she wanted to be famous and focused solely on her singing and music. She competed in multiple competitions and shows as a teenager and when she turned nineteen she signed her first record label not long after she released her first song that became number three on the charts in Britain. Amy was inspired by the 1960’s, she loved the clothing, music and vibe of the time period. This time period is where she got her idea for her iconic big and poofy hair. It is possible that her love of the 60’s could have contributed to her drug addiction. If people from that time tended to do drugs and was marked cool for doing them it might have inspired Amy to get involved in them. Though it is possible that her love of the 60’s played a part in her drug addiction it was really her boyfriend that got her into drugs. Her boyfriend at the time was a huge drug addict and got caught and arrested for doing drugs multiple times throughout their relationship. Since Amy’s boyfriend was a drug addict it was no surprise she was too, the public and media were not shocked when they were told that her death was ruled an accidental overdose.

Nobody can truly escape drugs, if you aren’t doing them yourself you probably know somebody who does. You might not even know they are doing drugs, they could be a close friend or even family. Though you may think drugs can solve your problem they are never the answer and can lead to death. It can cause health issues, mental issues and even issues in your relationships. Drugs are destructive and can destroy your life if you take them. If it can destroy a famous person with plenty of resources to stop then it can destroy your life too.
