The Role of the Art for Example on Painting Van Gogh
The role art plays in any given society is truly open to interpretation. While I believe there are common connections people share regarding art, such as the simple fact that it pleases people with its beauty, the specific role it plays varies. There are different types of art: traditional, visual, performance, modern, urban, contemporary, etc. Each type of art holds a unique meaning, and thus, contributes differently to any given society. In addition to pleasing people with its immense beauty, another crucial role of art is that it expresses the emotions and struggles of the society it exists within.
It inspires society to confront various issues, invariably helping it move towards overcoming them.
Art is incontrovertibly instrumental for the progression of society because it defines virtually every aspect of our lives. From the music that we listen to, the clothes that we wear, the houses we live in, to the books we read, everything is shaped by art. These vital facets of our lives would be non-existent without the pervasive impact of art. Art’s considerable contribution to the progression of society cannot be understated, and this influence will persevere through the years to come.
If there were a lack of art and artistic expression in this world, the universe as we know it, along with society, would be a drastically different place—maybe even an impossibility. Everything can be construed as art, thus leaving its definition truly open to interpretation. If there were a dearth of artistic expression, it would be incredibly challenging, if not virtually impossible, to progress in this world.
My favorite work of art is unequivocally “Starry Night” by Vincent van Gogh. Since childhood, I have been captivated by this sublime painting. Both the story behind the painting and Van Gogh himself intrigue me tremendously. The painting is intended to portray a dreamlike interpretation of Van Gogh’s asylum room’s view after he mutilated his own ear – a fact that fascinates me. A lesser-known fact about the painting, which I discovered on my own, is the implicit representation of mathematical concepts within it. “Starry Night” has been linked with the concept of turbulence—an intricate concept in physics. Scientists, over a decade ago, noticed similarities between eddies of a dust and gas cloud swirling around a star and Van Gogh’s “Starry Night.” Further study revealed a clear pattern of turbulent fluid structures, mirroring Kolmogorov’s equation, in many of Van Gogh’s paintings, including “Starry Night”. Evidently, Van Gogh managed to comprehend and represent one of the most complex concepts in nature.
