How it works

Let’s say that you’re going to your’s older brother/ sister or a friend’s house. They don’t have good internet, but you love to hang out with them and spend time with them and spending time with them. If they have good internet you probably wouldn’t be as close anymore cause you would be distracted by your phones or the tv. Technology is hurting society. Of course, technology is helping too but there are consequences. Technology probably wasn’t so cruel originally, but now it is hurting our social skills, distracting us from the importance of our grades, and making people feel like they aren’t good enough.

Technology is hurting society’s social skills all around the globe. In document one, ‘Snapshot of the most depressing thing I’ve laid eyes on in a while: two nicely dressed young adults, presumably on a date, sitting across each other in total silence, ignoring one another for the entertainment of their smartphone.’ This is somewhat true for me cause when I’m with my mom, we’re either watching tv or on our phones. We never really spend time with each other but, it’s not just with my mom, it’s also with my friends or other family members.

Technology is distracting students from what is important, like grades. The most likely reason that students are struggling in class in the first place is that they are looking down at their phones. Children text other students that are also in class which makes it very similar to a domino effect (a chain reaction that can sometimes affect others or things around the source). If the students aren’t on social media then there playing games that get addicting and they can’t stop. Students in the Union County Middle School are very distracted by their phones and it causes them to miss work. Many students will text a parent, guardian, sibling, family member, or even a friend to come to get them out of school. Kids will text them in school or call them in the bathroom and ask them to come to get them from school. Not only are they on their phone during class and missing work but they are also gonna be leaving school in the middle of the day and it all started with their phone.

Technology is usually the reason kids and adults have depression or feel bad about themselves. Ever log off social media such as Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat, or social websites and feel bad about yourself. It’s common in America and many other places. Either you see pictures of all your friends together and you feel left out or you see beautiful and radiant pictures of other people and you start doubting your body. Students and adults can relate cause there will always be someone more rich, skinny, or funnier than you cause there are just different types of people. So, of course, there will be people that doubt their body, parenting, job, or life but technology is making it worse because it’s everywhere.

Technology and social sites are hurting society in so many ways. Of course, it helps, to engage students in school on their Chromebooks. As a helping fact there are still hurting facts in some ways it’s especially hurting kids cause they automatically add someone on Instagram ‘dating’ people on the other side of the country. It’s so dangerous because you don’t know who they are. So overall we need to understand the actual dangers of social media whether it’s cyberbullying or low self of esteem.

In the past, I have logged off of social media wondering if my friends were mad at me or maybe I was mad at them cause they didn’t invite me to their hang out. I will admit that I’m on social media all the time because I love to talk to my friends and look at videos on Instagram. That isn’t what is hurting our society, it’s the fact that we are adding people that we don’t know, don’t like, or don’t trust. Then those people will talk to you in a weird or mean way and that will either make you feel unsafe or bad about yourself. I have experience with having a friend who even went to my school that made me feel unsafe and I didn’t want to go to school cause I felt like it would get worse. It’s not fair that social media is hurting us so bad that we don’t want to go to school or even be around our friends cause we are afraid that they know or that they think of us in a bad way just cause of one bad thing that happened overnight. People have way too much courage on social media and I say this because many people threaten or say that they are going to do something but they don’t because they aren’t miles away or behind a screen of a smartphone anymore. As a country, as a state, and as a community, let us not let social media ruin our generation.
