Manson’s Popularity
Comes now before you a man accused of leading a cult in the 1960’s. Charles Millles Manson. He formed what became known as the Manson Family. Manson’s followers committed a series of nine crimes. Charles Manson was born November 12, 1934 in Cincinnati Ohio to the parents of Colonel WH Scott SR and Kathleen Mattox. His mother would remarry a man named William Manson, who would eventually adopt a young Charles.
When the Manson family began to from, Manson had been in and out of prison for a variety of offenses.
He was unemployed and an ex convict. Before he was accused of the murders and conspiracy Manson was a singer/ songwriter. Through a chance encounter with Dennis Wilson, drummer and founding member of the beach boys, Manson believed in what he called “Helter Skelter”. Helter Skelter was a term he took from the Beatles’ song of the same name. Manson believed it described the apocalyptic race war that was inevitable.
In the beginning of Manson’s popularity, Manson became known all too well for his insanity, and violence. He was charged with many crimes. He later was convicted of these crimes. Most of Manson’s followers were young women from California. The group “Manson Family” was involved in the murders of Gary Hinman, Sharon Tate, and four other in her home. It is believed the Family was also responsible for many other crimes and thefts. Another well known crime that the family committed was the attempted assassination of President Gerald Ford.
Manson was convicted of seven counts of first degree murder, and one count of conspiracy to commit murder. He was sentenced to death. When the death penalty was ruled unconstitutional, he was resentenced life with the possibility of parole. This made Manson able to apply for parole after seven years of being in prison. His first parole hearing was in 1978, and it was rejected.
Charles Manson lived out the rest of his life in prison. Charles Manson. In 2017 Charles Manson became ill and was rushed to the hospital. They determined that he was too weak for surgery on his internal bleeding. He was taken back to prison. He then returned to the hospital about a month later. He died from cardiac arrest and colon cancer on November 19,2017. Charles Manson lived a life full of violence, crime, and hate. Many families suffered at the hands of the “Manson Family”.
