How it works
I took the personality test today and received the personality type assignment ENFJ. This immediately struck me as interesting since I recall taking a similar test in high school and receiving the personality type ENTP. Given that I am now a college senior, I understand that certain aspects of my personality may change as I grow and mature. I wonder if any of my fellow classmates who have previously taken this test received a different answer as well.
Upon navigating to the personality descriptions page, I learned that ENFJ stands for “Extraverted, Intuitive, Feeling, and Judging”.
The longer personality type description also gave me some valuable insight into what it means to be an ENFJ. For one, I learned that individuals of my type possesses immense people skills. I have always known that I love working with and getting to know all different kinds of people, but now I understand that there is a psychological element to that quality of mine. Secondly, I learned that having the power of people skills comes with a degree of responsibility. In the future, I need to be sure that I am not taking advantage of or manipulating others when I collaborate with them. I also learned that ENFJ individuals need to prioritize spending time alone. I took this suggestion especially seriously because I sometimes find myself actively avoiding alone time for fear of missing out on time with my friends. Finally and most profoundly, I discovered that my personality type may sometimes cause me to care for others’ needs before my own. At first, I did not think this was a characteristic of mine. Although as I began to think critically about my actions, I realized that I actually do this very often. In the future, I vow to spend more time considering and satisfying my own needs and goals instead of focusing on those of the others in my life.
For the most part, I agree with the long description of my personality type on the website. There were only three parts of the description that I could not see within myself. First of all, I find satisfaction in dealing with impersonal information whereas most ENFJ types do not. I admit that the part of my brain that handles facts and figures is utilized less often than the other parts, but I enjoy expanding it and ensuring that it does not fade away. I also take pride and comfort in my achievements while often experiencing anxiety regarding my plans for the future. This is almost exactly the opposite of the description of a typical ENFJ. Lastly, although I can sometimes be a bit impulsive, I am usually quite good at making important decisions without relying on other people to help me. Although I disagree with these parts of the description when applied to myself, I am humble enough to admit that I may actually demonstrate a few of these qualities without realizing it. To follow up, I plan to ask my friends and family if they agree or disagree with these items as a description of me.
All in all, this personality test was very educationally beneficial to me. I learned a great deal of new information about myself as well as the ways in which I interact with those around me. I plan to use this new information to be the most effective and successful member of my organizations and class groups. I would recommend this assessment to my colleagues to help them discover their personality types and subsequent strengths and weakness like I did.
