How it works
Aside from what anyone thinks animal testing does has positives, although some might argue that they don't outweigh the negatives. Testing on a living organism could be more accurate than a small percentage of alternatives. It also gave us a much better understanding of our own anatomy considering before we tested on animals we thought our lungs pumped our blood throughout our body(Animal Experimentation). Also animal testing has given us an insight on the effectiveness of medications developed to combat some of the worse diseases and ailments that affect us.
Allegedly millions of lives have been saved by vaccines developed and tested on animals. Although some argue that the reduction of these diseases is due to the improvement of conditions for human life. Some examples of treatments discovered or made with the use of animals is insulin which in this country in particular is a very much needed resource. Scientists have also injected animals with diseases such as Polio and the Whooping cough into primates, guinea pigs, and mice to develop a vaccine for all of those diseases which have saved millions of lives throughout the world(Animal Experimentation).
When people were told that animal testing was needed to develop those vaccines there wasn't much protest. There was protest however when they tested chemotherapy and other cancer treatments on goats in a university in Montreal, Canada but it did lead to major discoveries. The other major part that many people don't realize is animal experimentation is dissecting animals in classrooms. People will be against animal experimentation but don't realize that they are actually slicing up a baby piglet or a frog. We do that to learn and gain hands on experience to greatly improve a students understanding of bodily structures. Granted if people/students are really against it they can take a simulated version online. College students dissect animals to later save lives as doctors and surgeons. They hone their skill and technique on dead animals. Scientists say that there's no better way for the to learn. So using them for colleges and medical schools is a need. Saying all those reasons no one can argue that using animals to aid us in experiments has helped us learn valuable information.
