In the waning years of the 19th century, the alchemy of flavors unfolded in the crucible of Charles Alderton’s imagination at Morrison’s Old Corner Drug Store in Waco, Texas.

The secret concoction birthed there found its way into the hands of Robert S. Lazenby in 1885, the first in a series of custodians entrusted with the legacy of Dr Pepper. However, Lazenby, akin to a fizz that fizzles too soon, found himself unable to propel the beverage into the mainstream.

Enter Sam Houston Prim, a pioneer with a penchant for potable potions. In 1904, Prim assumed the reins of Dr Pepper, determined to orchestrate a symphony of success for the burgeoning brand. Dublin Dr Pepper, nestled in the heart of Texas, became synonymous with a unique deviation – the use of imperial cane sugar instead of the ubiquitous high-fructose corn syrup. The sweet saga continued until 2012, when a legal imbroglio forced Dublin Dr Pepper to hang up its cane sugar crown.

In 1986, Dr Pepper joined hands in a carbonated courtship with the Seven-Up Company, an alliance that propelled the brand into the arms of the beverage behemoth Cadbury Schweppes. The nuptial vows augmented Dr Pepper’s global footprint, etching its name deeper into the annals of soda lore.

A seismic shift reverberated in 2008 when Cadbury Schweppes birthed the Dr Pepper Snapple Group (DPSG), gifting Dr Pepper a newfound autonomy. The goal was to navigate the currents of change and innovate in an industry brimming with effervescence and competition.

In 2018, the plot thickened as Keurig Green Mountain entered the stage, waltzing into a merger with DPSG. The union forged Keurig Dr Pepper, a fusion of hot beverage mastery and the sparkling legacy of Dr Pepper.
