What is Police Brutality?
Police brutality is one of the most austere infringements to the black community all around the United States. Police brutality originally began in the early 70s, due to the absence of equal rights and protection for African Americans. Over the last past several years, the matter has left African Americans dubious on if policemen are doing their duties or just searching for their next murder. Due to all the nonessential shooting, brutal tactics, and drubbing upon black people, three revolutionary black organizers created Black Lives Matter.
In the result of this injustice, Korryn Gaines, a 23-year old African American woman, was pulled over with her two year old son and her daughter in the car with her for not having a tag on her vehicle. When the police approached her car she explained that her tag was taken because she was in the process of suing their police station. Gaines then asked the policeman to ID himself before she would cooperate with anything he was telling her to do. The policeman proceeded to tell her to get out of her car without having a reasonable explanation. Another policeman approached and reached into her car to turn off the engine. The policeman took her keys back to his car and ran her information through their database. Several officers arrived to the scene along with the chief of their police department who allowed Gaines to leave. Numerous hours later, police arrived at Korryn house with a warrant for her arrest or failure to appear in court over a traffic case. Sitting in her living room with her son in her lap, and a rifle in her hand, she refused to open the door. Officers entered her home and opened fire Gaines was shot four times by Ruby; one shot pierced her lungs and spine, and a ricochet struck her son. (citation) (Washington Post) A jury granted thirty seven million dollars in compensation to Korryn Gaines family members. Gaines shooter, who is uncolored, was not indicted for this abomination but, was promoted to the the position of corporal on the police task force. Baltimore County police spokesman Shawn Vinson told the Baltimore Sun that the state’s attorney’s office reviewed the situation and deemed the shooting justified. It was established to help black people gain rights for fair treatment and national acknowledgment. Black Lives Matter provides an insight to the public about what is happening between police officers and the black community. Black Lives Matter has a network of more than 40 chapters, people from every society work together to fight for black people’s equality (BLM.com)(Citation). (ending sentence)
Adding another paragraph using sentences out of the next paragraph, then write a different conclusion* Transition word, black people accounted for twenty percent of police killing victims in 2017; even though, they made up just 13 percent of the population but police were only charged with a crime in 1 percent of cases (Citation) (Vox.com). (paragraph not finished)
All in all, (add sentences). Police brutality is one of the many causes of death of black people. The Black Lives Matter movement will spread awareness until the number of casualties decrease. No specific race shouldn’t have to worry or suffer in fear of police brutality.
