Value of Community for Human

“In society, people are made to live and work with others as social creatures who are made developed to exist inside networks. A group’s quality is esteemed excellent with regards to the level of inclusion and satisfaction people can draw from collaborations inside the network and tragically the sentiment of self-uncertainty and detachment is advanced by certain networks. A people group is regarded constructive in the event that it rouses gatherings and advances a feeling of self-revelation and association. These communities likewise urge individuals to express their convictions and qualities, just as develop their associations with others.

One of the many characteristics of a community is that they work together to achieve a common goal. The Civil Rights movement in the United States was a time in history where African Americans fought for their constitutional and legal rights in a decades-long struggle. They all worked together to achieve the common goal of equality amongst all races. One of the key leaders during the Civil Rights movement, Martin Luther King Jr., promoted the act of peaceful protest during this important time in our country’s history. In “Letter From Birmingham Jail”, King explains that the reason he was arrested was unjust, “I have been arrested parading without a permit. Now, there is nothing wrong in having an ordinance which requires a permit for a parade. But such an ordinance becomes unjust when it is used to maintain segregation and to deny citizens the First- Amendment privilege of peaceful assembly and protest” (286). King was arrested for expressing his First-Amendments rights, which includes free speech and assembly, and King believed that the ordinance that he was issued was not needed because he was just peacefully expressing his rights.

Another way the value of community is portrayed is in Alvord’s text, “Walking the Path between Two Worlds”. In her text, she considers a community to be a kinship group that will be there through hardships while at the same time, unify two communities which are her past and future. Alvord states, “I couldn’t even imagine a place with only five Indians since our town was 98 percent Indian” (318). This allows for Alvord to continue to build her status and credibility because she presents to the audience that when it comes to tribal culture, she is educated on the topic. She is unable to even fathom a place with “only five Indians” so this emphasizes how important tribal culture is in her life.

Lastly, Richard Rodriguez’s piece, Aria, has a tone that seems full of resentment in the first part of the text, which suddenly becomes guilt. The tone portrayed by Rodriguez seems bitter when he’s describing his difficulties at school in America, “ This comes off this way since is is trying to protect his Spanish heritage and learn a completely different language at the same time. When transitioning into the remaining half of the piece, the author takes on a guilty tone because he steps away from his Spanish culture and sets his main focus on his American lifestyle in the public eye, they do not seem to realize that there are two ways a person is individualized. So they do not realize that while one suffers a diminished sense of private individuality by becoming assimilated into public society, such assimilation makes possible the achievement of public individuality” (Rodriguez 312).”
