Benjamin Franklin was born in Boston Massachusetts on January 17, 1706. Benjamin's parents were Josiah Franklin and Abiah Folger. Franklin was the 15th born son out of 17 children. Benjamin Franklin said he was "the youngest born son of the youngest son for five generations back. Ben Franklin's formal education ended at the age of 10. He ran away from home to New York in 1723 because he was tired of his brothers "harsh and tranical behavior. He then moved back to Pennsylvania for the rest of his life.
Franklin was self educated after the age 10. He earned honorary degrees from Harvard, Yale, England's Oxford University, and Scotlands University of St. Andrews. Ben Franklin the ventured to London in 1724.
Benjamin Franklin married his landlord's daughter Deborah in 1730. Deborah was married before she married Franklin but her previous husband left a few months after they got married. Together they had 3 kids. Their first son died of smallpox at the age of 4. The couples first and only daughter was born in 1774. The couple had another son named William who was born on an unknown date. William became a loyalist and was not accepted by his father. Deborah died in 1774 while Franklin was exploring England. In London Franklin enjoyed swimming. He would swim long distances in the Thames River, so he crafted wooden flippers. In 1968 he was inducted as an honorary member of the International Swimmers Hall of Fame. In 1725 Franklin published his first pamphlet "A Dissertation upon Liberty and Necessity, Pleasure and Pain. In 1726 Benjamin returned to Pennsylvania. Franklin never served in the military himself but he did in fact organize a militia to defend Pennsylvania from the French and Spaniards in 1748. Benjamin Franklin is a world renowned diplomat, writer, inventor, scientist and entrepreneur. He worked in multiple print shops throughout his adult life. In 1730 he was named the official printer of Pennsylvania.
Benjamin Franklin was one of the most successful founding fathers. He invented the Franklin stove, Bifocals, Armonica, rocking chair, flexible catheter, and the American penny. While exploring other countries Franklin discovered the Gulf stream. Benjamin Franklin also devised a scheme to eliminate the letters C, J, Q, W, X, and Y. In 1749 Franklin wrote pamphlet concerning the youth education in Pennsylvania that established the Academy of Pennsylvania. In 1731 he published "Poor Richard's Almanac in England. In 1751 Ben Franklin wrote "Experiments and Observations on Electricity" which was then published in England. In 1752 he conducted the kite-and-key experiment to prove lightning was electricity. Which gave Franklin the idea to invent the lighting rod. Benjamin Franklin has many distinguishing honors that he is very well known for.
Franklin is one of our country's founding fathers who signed all four of the key documents that established the U.S. (Declaration of Independence, U.S. Constitution, Treaty of Alliance with France, and the Treaty of Paris). He drafted both the Constitution and the Declaration. Franklin was elected to the Pennsylvania Assembly in 1754. Benjamin Franklin was also the first postmaster general of the colonies and a diplomat to France. He was often called the "First American. Ben Franklin was actually the oldest man at the Constitutional Convention. Franklin was obviously a Federalist because he drafted the Constitution.
Benjamin Franklin greatly impacted America. He founded many Universities and libraries he also founded the post office. He drafted the Declaration and the Constitution which are very important documents to our country. Franklin also made very important scientific discoveries and invented many things that we used today. Benjamin Franklin died April 17, 1790 his final resting place is in the cemetery of Pennsylvania Christs Church.
I believe that Benjamin Franklin is a very important person to our country's history. He is one of the most famous inventor, writer, and politician. He discovered electricity which we use in our daily lives. Ben Franklin was also very smart, he had 4 honorary degrees without even finishing school. I think without Franklin's discoveries our country would not be how it is today. Benjamin Franklin negotiated many treaties with countries we are allies with. He drafted one of the most important documents of our country that greatly impacts the government. I believe Benjamin Franklin is one the greatest founding fathers.
